Changing Chapters To Titles

RichM

Question

I have 4 hours (continuous) of old home movie that I'd like to split into more digestible segments--15 minutes to a half hour each. I created chapters in MyDVD thinking this would solve my problem; but it seems as though I need to create "titles"?

The ultimate goal is to have each segment (1940-1945, 1945-1950, etc) clickable on the menu so that the viewer can easily decide which era he or she would like to watch without having to fast forward or rewind through 4 hours of video. How can I do this? Can I somehow convert my chapters that have already been created into appropriate titles?

Also, I have some video that ended up out of order. How do I cut and paste to change sequence? Can I cut a clip from one chapter and paste it in another?

Thanks for reading (and hopefully replying!)...

Since a standard 4.7GB DVD can only hold 60 minutes of video at best quality, I would forget about trying to squeeze 4 hours on a DVD. Considering that you are using old home movies as your source, the quality may not be that good when converted to mpeg format. Putting more then 60 minutes of video on a DVD will reduce the quality even more.

I suggest you use Videowave to create separate video clips which you can then add to myDVD as titles.

At this point, I'm in Videowave and I'm having trouble figuring out how to separate my video into clips (or panels). Even with the help option I can't figure this out. Does anyone know how to do this? Is this even an option in Videowave?

Thanks,

Rich

Instead of working with one huge video file, capture to shorter segments that include your "chapters video" You can then use Videowave to trim off the unwanted sections at both ends. These clips can then be loaded easily as separate titles into myDVD

One way of handling large files in VW for use in MyDVD…

Load BigClip. select Save As, and save it as Clip1. It will have a dmsm extension.

Now go to the end of what you want in the first clip and Split it there (icon to the right of the scissors) Go to the remainder of the clip, click it to make it active and delete it. You are left with only the part you want in Clip1. Now Save!

New Production, Add BigClip. Select Save As and save it as Clip2. Use the Split at the beginning and end of the portion you want for Clip2 and delete the rest. Save!

New Production… etc.

It is a good idea to write down the dmsm file names and Production Lengths as you go.

Now you have your BigClip separated into many dmsm files, Clip1, Clip2, ect.

Open MyDVD Keep in mind that a 4.7gb DVD only holds 1 hour at Best Quality.

You can now select the dmsm files in MyDVD and it will load just what is in that VW Production.
