john e
I'd suggest closing this one down, conversation is taking a bad turn.... why is it taking a bad turn, personal attack on anyone?..no stating personal opinion on drm and copy protection......yes mention of slysoft....no problem with me. was trying to point out that copy protection causes more headaches for genuine users than it stops people from copying.. did i have a slight rant..yes ... because of copy protection.if thats bad form...sorry do people copy my films...sure they do..i just live with it. do i copy bluray films i buy..no do i condone copying..no the op asked about copy protection and i felt the discussion was relevant but if you want censorship of opinion and censorship of discussion..goodbye

While you're conversation has many merits IMO, let's not cause Roxio any grief.

While you're conversation has many merits IMO, let's not cause Roxio any grief. i wasnt trying to give roxio any grief, but trying to point out how pointless any copy protection is, it just causes frustration on genuine buyers, look at some of the horror stories with pc software protection, my frustration at trying to watch a film on the pc and it must cause frustration to those trying to protect their product. the only winners are those that can crack it and then sell the product as they make money. the loosers are the public who pay higher prices for their so called copy protected disc. if there was a way to protect my dvds, bluray discs(hopefully), then i would also go for it but i know it wont happen. so as i said, i try to price my films carefully, accept they will be copied by a few tight fisted people then roll over and dont loose any sleep over it. sorry again if this causes roxio difficulty on their forum.. I'm not arguing about what's fair or what makes sense, only that this is not the place for some of what's being discussed here. Much of what you say is logical but this is just not the place. SS Scott
copy protection is for replicated discs only, not discs that you burn.
TomInIowa
Copy protection on most dvd's can be defeated by programs that are easily download from the internet. (the point being is is probably a waste of your time trying to copy protect a dvd)
john e
Copy protection on most dvd's can be defeated by programs that are easily download from the internet. (the point being is is probably a waste of your time trying to copy protect a dvd) listen to Tom..how much was invested to protect bluray....and slysoft cracked it..trying to copy protect is pointless and the sooner even the big studios realize it the better. I produce dvds for sale and i know some people will buy one just to copy it for others and it will be the same for bluray. All the copy protection and paranoia about drm issues has done is to create frustration for genuine users and turn people away from bluray. in my experience(for what its worth) the only thing you can do is to price you dvds realistically and package them profesionally so that the product is worth buying, then just accept that a few will always want to rip you off. on the subject of slysoft(if i may get on my soap box for a minute) what a godsend they are.having purchased an lg bluray burner/player for my pc and having purchased a good graphics card i was told by the cyberlink software..sorry you dont have an hdmi connection so your cant watch your film, you legal purchased ,on your 23"apple cinema 1080p display..with the software you legal purchased..Aaagh!...oh yeh!..quick download (thanks slysoft) and now watching my film(region A as well, US import) on my pc, have i done anything illegal..no.have i copied the film..no..i just wanted to watch it on the pc! . so thats why copy potection is stupid it makes user jump through hoops and is easily defeated.rant over..thanks.. so forget copy protection because if they are clever enough to think about copying a bluray disc then they will have heard about slysoft...dont loose sleep over it and dont waste your money.perhaps the only thing preventing copying of your bluray film is the cost of blank discs..imo cheers, all the best john.
