Brendon
1) I have the retail version. 2) Moveable feast I can understand, but if I understand you correctly, I've used that "menu" many times and it still hasn't shown up or if you have to use if before it shows up in that menu, that might be a bit of a problem! But maybe not now. Easy Audio Capture works beautifully so far. Thanks again. Which retail version do you have? If you run the Home application and go to Help > About this software, does it show the version as 1.0.044(sic) or as 10.1.226, or something different? In my 10.1.226, there's no mention of EAC in the applications list, or the frequently used list, or the Start >All Programs > Roxio Easy Media Creator 10 lineup. It seems only available as a Sidebar Gadget in Vista. Is this another peculiarity of 10.1.226, or does 10.0 behave like this in Vista? Sanderskm, What version number is it, and have you managed to get Easy Audio Capture to show in your home or Applications menus now? GrandpaBruce, which version are you using in your screen clips with EAC showing in the menu? Regards, Brendon

Sanderskm, What version number is it, and have you managed to get Easy Audio Capture to show in your home or Applications menus now? I'm using 1.0.044. For now, you'll have to take my word Easy Audio Capture doesn't show in the application list of the Home screen. (I don't have any way to put an image on the Web that I can link to in this! That is the only way, right?) My Home applications screen looks exactly like Brendon's.
sanderskm
Okay, new problem with Easy Audio Capture: When prompted to delete, continue recording or open in Sound Editor after stopping a recording, if I choose open in Sound Editor, nothing happens. Any ideas, and thanks in advance for your help (again)!
Brendon
It might be a Vista thing, since Bruce is running XP. Stay tuned, and I'll go try a few things with it in XP.

sanderskm
Just tried it using the wav setting instead of mp3. Still no go. Hold that thought ... I just developed a workaround: It appears if I open Sound Editor before I try to export audio to it from EAC, the audio is imported into it successfully! Before, as I said, neither SE or Music Disc Creator (just tried that one though) would open. When I attempted to try it again, EAC would not respond and cause the sidebar to freeze up. Sidebar error window then identified EAC as the problem gadget and offer to remove. Problem solved for now, and thanks much again for your suggestions. Brendon
Right, I'm back. Sorry that took so long, but I had another process running [wife.exe] and I had to attend to that one, as we should 'kay, I think I have it now. EAC is run as a sidebar gadget in Vista, so doesn't appear on the home menu. In XP, when I installed it there, EAC appears in the menus, and when it is called it runs as a Windows executable, Analogrec10.exe. I watched it, so I know. I think that covers the odd behavior we were questioning. Have I missed anything? Regards, Brendon
tbrewst
Could be there was a problem with the Gadget installation. You could try going to the sidebar, hit the + at the top that lets you open the gadgets and uninstall the EAC gadget.Reboot.Now go to the Control Panel,Programs and highlight EMC10 suite. Now hit Change at the top. When the box comes up with all the components put a check mark next to EAC Gadget and reinstall it.You may need the original discs. sanderskm
Can you otherwise open Sound Editor? Yes, I can open Sound Editor bring and bring in audio files, and at least play them. I am assuming all the other functions are available. tbrewst: What version of Windows are you using?
sanderskm
No, I think that explains and covers it. I imagine because of Vista's not-so-friendly way of handling audio as compared to XP's, it had to be done that way. Thanks for the thorough follow through. (And those wife.exe processes are very difficult to terminate, unless one is willing to become ex-husband.exe!)
tbrewst
Vista SP1 I captured 30 seconds in the wav format, made sure the radio button was on "Open this file in" was set to Sound Editor and hit done.Sound Editor opened with the file loaded. Try setting it to Music Disc Creator and see if it opens that.

grandpabruce
Where do you find/access the Easy Audio Capture assistant in Vista? I believe I've looked in the places where you are supposed to be able to find it, but can't. And it's not present as a sidebar gadget. Click on the EMC 10 icon on your desktop, click on Applications, and it is the 8th one down, on the right side.
Beerman
You can also add it as a Vista gadget by opening your Sidebar (Click Start and in the search box, type sidebar). When Sidebar opens, you can add Easy Audio Capture and Video Converter from Roxio as well as many, many other gadgets if you wish.
sanderskm
Thanks much. Ironically Easy Audio Capture was not in the list items in the EMC10 Home screen. Which is strange, I think. I was able to both gadgets by turning on the Windows sidebar. I had been running the Google sidebar, which does not have those gadges available. At least not when I did a search on "Roxio" or their names in the Google add gadgets window. Appreciate the help.

The right hand side of the home screen is pretty much a "moveable feast". You tend to get an assortment of the most recently used applications showing up there, so you may have to use it once or twice before it shows there. Actually, some must be there by default, because I have not used Easy Audio Capture in EMC 10. I have used it in every other version that I have, though.
