I've suffered along with many others on this, but have finally solved it.
I'm no Tech Guy so it's in basic terms.
I have a HP Media Centre Computer with ATI Radeon X1600 display drivers. After contacting Roxio's live chat they recommended I unpdate these drivers. They provided me with the link to the AMD site, which brougt up a list of drivers for Media Centre. I must confess I wasn't entirely sure which one I needed, and was particularly weary as I had already had a major system recovery issue under my belt from a previously incorrect update from the same site, although this was my fault as I'd chosen the wrong one and didn't realise how serious this error could be, I know now!
I downloaded the Catalyst Software Suite which was added only a month ago, 18th June, so it's pretty new. And hey presto my problems with writing DVD's are over.
In the process I've learnt a couple of handy self help tools, which I'm sure others will find useful.
1) Start>Run>dxdiag
This brings up the DirectX Diagnostic Tool, very handy for identifying exactly what you've already got.
2) Start>Run>devmgmt.msc
This is a different way of getting into Device Manager.
If only this had solved all of my problems with this software!
