Sonic Digitalmedia Plus V7

MrNemo

Question

Got a HP computer which came with what it describes as Sonic DigitalMedia Plus v7 which includes MYDVD with which I have created a number of slide shows with holiday pictures.

My DVD writer drive recently failed and I replaced it with another HP drive, however the Sonic software says it needs an installation file to reinstall - and it cannot find it.

I would like to continue to use the software for making DVDs with the slideshows. Anybody got any ideas on how I can do this without buying MYDVD? Tried getting a update for the download version of EMC 7 but it refused to install as it could not find my program which I assume is something different?

Sonic say they do not support there software obtained with Computers/dVD drives.

You have a OEM Roxio software, contact HP as it is their OEM version, maybe they can help you.

Mr. Nemo

Did you get drivers for your new dvd drive? If you did did you load them??? Sometimes that is a problem, even though the computer is suppose to automatically recognize the new drive. Did you register the software that came with your computer??? Lots of people don't think about doing that. Sometimes you can't but I always try.

I had an OEM of Nero when I got my WinXP computer. I asked them to put in a DVD Combo drive in addition to the CD-RW. Later, for some reason, I did a reinstall, and Nero only recognized one of the drives. (Actually, since the Combo drive had come with a newer Version, it was the Combo drive that was recognized.) I was in a position to take it back to the shop where I got it, and they re-updated it.

It isn't unusual for an OEM program to recognize ONLY the drive it came with (if it came with the computer, only the drive the computer came with).

You may need to actually buy a full, retail Version (you can try eBay to see if someone is selling off an older copy after updating). However, try checking with HP first.

I think MrNemo is saying that the burning program won't recognize the drive, not that the computer won't recognize the drive. My answer is based on that interpretation, anyway.

Hi Everbody

Thanks for the replies!

I found an update to the program on the HP site - which stops it asking for the setup files but it will not recognise the new drive. Suspect I should have tried harder and paid the 60p minute support helpline and bought an exact replacement rather than any old or new in this case HP DVD writer!

I will try conacting HP and see what they say.

I think the advice to seach for a discount copy of MYDVD was a good one!
