Trouble Capturing Video

cluelesstoo

Question

When trying to capture video from video camcorder using a Dazzle device, the capture function operates 4 seconds then the program freezes and becomes non-responsive when you try to exit capture function page. For some reason the emc10 program is locking up. Anybody got any idea why?

You would need a 4 pin to 4 pin Firewire cable. Walmart usually carries the Belkin brand which are decent for the price. According to the online manual, the IEEE 1394 port is on the right side next to the audio ports.

Not much you can do about the processor, but adding another 512 MB RAM or more would certainly help WinXP run better (see page 100 in manual for requirements). 30GB of free space isn't very much for video editing. One hour of captured DV AVI is 13GB. An external hard drive would help with that.

My camcorder says digital processor but it must be analog because it does not have a firewire connector, only RCA and S video connectors available. So I guess I will have to use the Dazzle capture device to the computer. I tried shutting down virus protection and internet connection to avoid conflicts, but still the same problem. Click on capture and program locks up after 4 seconds of capture. I don't expect this program to work fast, I am only trying to download a video tape and burn it onto a DVD. Pretty basic stuff but I have owned this program for 5 days and can't get it to do anything other than allowing me to talk to people about why it doesn't work. Thanks for the advice on getting the computer to work better. I do have an external hard drive that I could plug in if I need more space, but right now I only want to transfer a 1hr and 20 minute video.

..... also did you install the correct drivers for your OS (operating system)?

Are you capturing to an internal drive or a USB connected one? How much free space? I assume you defrag regularly --before each capture attempt.

Have you tried a USB port on the back of your computer; the ones in front may be underpowered for that device.

If you have a digital 8mm camcorder, you really don't need the Dazzle. Connect the camcorder directly to the computer using firewire and you would get much better results. And easier to capture, too! :)

See if you have these connectors:

You never listed your system specs, but most computers in the past few years all have firewire including laptops. Most laptop use the smaller 4 pin connector like the camcorder image. Desktop normally have the larger 6pin. All you would need is the appropriate firewire cable for your camcorder and computer.

Also, list your system specs, especially your video card/chip.

Specs are Windows XP Service Pack 3, Processor 1.6 GHz, 797 Mhz,512MB Ram, Video Card ATI Mobility Radeon X300

Driver came with the emc 10 kit. Using USB connection. 30.2GB free space. Just defraged. Tried rear USB port, same problem, locks up after 4 seconds of capture.

EMC 10 requires that you capture from a digital camcorder via Firewire, USB does not work.

Also your system just barely meets the EMC 10 requirements for video work

I do have the small 4 pin firewire connector. I guess I'll have to get one. Thanks for the info.

Your laptop would possibly capture, with a firewire connection, but any video editing after capturing, would be painfully slow, if it worked at all.

Make certain that you've installed the Dazzle drivers.... available here: http://kb.roxio.com/content/kb/Creator/000...R?set-locale=en

If you're still having trouble, Roxio Tech support might be able to help.

I reinstalled the drivers again-no help. I have been talking to Roxio Tech Support for days. They have been less help than here in the forum. Its time to get my money back.

With your computer you will have problems doing any kind of video work, no matter what software you use.

Are you capturing from a digital or analog camcorder? What Dazzle device are you using? A bit more information please!
