Toast 9 Continuously Hanging While Burning Dvd

Henryrobinett

Question

I'm trying to archive some audio recording sessions to DVD. Not DL. I recently upgraded to 9 from 6. I'm on a Dual 2.7, 10.4.11, 7 GB ram. It hangs at about 10 seconds in. This is a serious PITA as I've got a lot of work and a lot of archiving to do first.

I've repaired permissions, reset PRAM. I have to reboot the Mac in order to get the CD to eject and to maybe do one disc. It will burn one and hang on the net.

This is new. I haven't had this problem before, so something must've changed in my settings.

Ideas please???

I'm assuming you're using the Data window. The usual response to an issue like this is to try a different brand of media and to check if your drive has a firmware update available. That, of course, may have nothing to do with the problem. Choose Save as disc image and try burning the disc image file using the Image File setting in the Copy window.

I'll try that. What I ended up doing was zipping the files before burning. This seemed tom help. I had no more hanging after that. That maybe similar to saving as a disc image? Maybe there was a resource header that was getting stripped (??) while burning and things were hanging?? Does that make any kind of sense? I don't know.

I'm out of town so it'll be a minute before I can get back to it. Thanks!

It still hangs. This is burning to the internal drive. I would assume I'd get software updates? No? I'll check.

How else do I burn other than the data window? That's the only way I've done it, as far as I know.

The media has been fine -- always, up to this. I went through a whole spindle of the same with few problems. This has just started recently. Maybe after the last update??

Why do a disc image first?

BTW it just hanged again after doing a disc image. This really sucks.

Dual 2.7 G5, 10.4.11.

For me, it hangs whenever I switch to another application while the disc (CD/DVD) is burning.

1. Burn any disc (CD/DVD, any format).

2. While the disc is burning, switch to another application.

3. Switch back to Toast 9 (9.0.4) and you will notice that progress window stops updating.

Right-click on the Toast icon in Dock and you will see that application is not responding in the dock menu.

It's really frustrating because I'd rather do something more productive than watching the progress bar.
