Mov File Trouble

albertarn

Question

I am trying to create a video project using MOV files. MyDVD will not allow me to even create it - it gives a 'project empty' error message - and when I tried using CineMagic I managed to put a project together, but it gives a message that 'your video footage needs to be twice as long as your production. If you proceed your project will be shorter', or something to that effect. When I attempted to preview it it simply gives an 'Unknown error' message & shuts down. What am I supposed to do? For software that touts itself as supporting MOV files, this software sure doesn't.

Were you able to edit the movie in Videowave w/ no problem? Have you tried that?

What is the source of these .mov files you are trying to work with?

They were movie files from an Olympus digital camera. They always worked smoothly with previous versions of Roxio Media Creator (v. 7) but that software no longer works on my computer. Hence the reason for buying version 10.

If you still have V 7 and are trying to use it in Vista or with Internet Explorer 7, parts of EMC 7 work.

Since you know the files work in v 7, you could use the VideoWave portion to edit your movie, then do a File/Output production as.... and make a video file for DVD Authoring Best and output the file. The DVD Builder portion of v 7 is the part that Vista and IE 7 break.

Then you can use that file in EMC 10 MyDVD to author the DVD.

Not the answer you need, of course, but it's a workaround that might work.

I happen to have an Olympus digital camera that takes .mov snippets. So I am going to see what happens with my little movies and report back.

What version of QuickTime are you using? I believe that EMC 10 requires version 7.? or better.

I have several mov files taken with a Olympus C720UZ as well as with a Panasonic DMC-FX12 and I have no problem loading them into Videowave and playing and editing them.

I have QT ver 7.1 installed.

Yes, tried that. It gives a different error - does not acknowledge.

It does IF you have Quicktime installed. EMC does not install that. You can download the latest Quicktime from Apple's website.

I do have QuickTime installed and it STILL comes up with the error.

It gives a totally different error - 'null', and says the project is either empty or contains invalid files in VideoWave.
