Cannot Burn My Project

vid2man97

Question

This may be a long post, so bear with me.

Though I've had ver.10 Suite installed (roughly two months), on this four month old tower, I haven't tried burning a movie or slideshow till last night. Well, I'm in big trouble here because no matter what I do, I get one error message or another.

First, I trimmed the end off of an avi captured from a videocam, in videowave. This movie was 24 minutes long. I sent it off to Mydvd, used one of the provided menus cause I wasn't picky, and told it to burn. It seemed to render everything and then when the actual burn should start I got that dreaded error 80004003. I also got messages in my event viewer about bad blocks and a controller error. Yes, I've looked at all of the posts regarding it and I'm not sure any of it applies to me. My burner firmware is up to date (I also use Nero, just to burn music and make data discs, with no problems). My video card shouldn't be a problem as I've already past the rendering stage, as well as my direct x, which is ver 9.0c (maybe a fews months out of date).

I've tried using hq, fit to disc and sp settings, all to no avail.

To make the problem even more peculiar, one the error read, " error while aborting, not enough space". That made me shake my head.

I then tried to make an iso file of the videowave project. It seemed to go off without a hitch.

Off to copy and convert I went and ended up with different errors...failed to start image write, error 80004003, error while aborting. It would hang at 800 sectors of 595,000 for that project.

If it's a clue at all about what's going on, I tried to pop my rewritable verbatim dvd back into the computer to erase it to try other options. It drove the computer nuts and it's now unusable. I've had to resort to using write once verbatims and tdks for my attempts.

And as I mentioned, I use Nero for my basic music and data backups and I've not had any problem with writes.

Well, I thought maybe if I made a small, simple project, it might narrow things down. I put together a small picture slideshow, with background music, basic fade transitions and sent it off to Mydvd. The menu was a simple pic with no music. It all ended up pretty much the same as the movie project.

I'm puzzled as this program was installed on a new system, and was the last program to be installed. It hasn't been used in this capacity till lately so apparently it's not working since day 1, it hasn't "broken down" with time or use.

With pretty much every type of attempt I've tried to get a successful burn here not working out, I'm guessing that an uninstall/reinstall is my best option.

I appreciate any advice I can get here, and of course, if any other info can help, I'll do my best to provide it.

Yes I had tried that.

What I hadn't done was plug and burn, where you burn right from your video camera to Dvd.

I just tried that and it failed miserably. A popup informed me that roxwizardlauncher 10.exe encountered and error and needed to close, faulting module msxml4.dll.

What puzzles me (if I start to suspect the burner) is how nero burns ok. At least I hope so and I don't have dozens of cr*p discs! Well, I did check a few and all burns seems alright. I've never had the bad block messages in the event viewer before either. I won't rule out the burner as I've seen this in the past (bad block messages indicating a bad burner).

Thanks for the interest so far.

an update....

I couldn't resist trying cinemagic as well. I know it's using the same components but there you go. I just put in a few pics, chose a basic menu and after my dvd express opened all whet well until the burn which died at 1% and that error 8000....came up.

Tried some burns with nero ultra (sorry people but it was on the computer long before I had to do video work so I kept it at it didn't really ever conflict for me), and all was well so I'm tempted to rule out the burner.

Still no joy. Still waiting patiently for advice as to what my problem may be and whether I may need to 'repair' or reinstall.

Have you tried burning a DVD using Nero?

You could also download ImgBurn and use it to burn the iso file to a DVD. If none of these work then I would suspect that the burner is "partially" broken

All I've ever used nero for (though it can do more) is data discs (on cd and dvd) and music on cd.

Are you proposing I create a video dvd? I could try it I suppose though it may take me a while to figure out how to use it.

I could of course try to burn (with nero), the iso that emc10 made and see if that works!

I'll give imgburn a try though because it is indeed possible that the burner is 'partly' broken.

thanks walt, for the reply and suggestions

burner is 'partly' broken.

Doubtful if it burns data DVD's.

Use ImgBurn #7 in my signature, under the view, make sure 'log' is checked. That way if it fails save the log file to post here. If you need help for ImgBurn click on the guides and forum links.

cd

I know, but it just doesn't make sense about how a clean install on a new system won't work right off the bat but this'll rule out the burner.

Clicked on #7 and will have a go tonight and will let you know how it went.

thanks yet again.

Update.

So I downloaded imgburn but before I installed it, I thought I'd have a go with nero since it's already there.

In videowave I made a five minute slideshow with music and sent it to Mydvd. I chose a premade menu and

made an iso. Oddly, it hung at 30% through encoding the menu. I am using hardware encoding (as I would

have to think my videocard is capable). I changed to software encoding and restarted and it went well.

On a lark, I tried to use Roxio to burn this image and it failed with a fancy error list. Don't know if it'll help but here it is..

Sense 02 asc 04 ascq 07 command51

and then it lists various .dlls

So I burned the iso with nero and it finished and the dvd played well. I don't really see the reason for using imgburn

at this point as I guess we've proven that the burner works. Unless, someone out there thinks it'll add something useful

to the situation.

Which leaves me with the conclusion that likely my emc10 is not a well puppy for some reason.

Is it worth trying to "repair"?

I know there's an "update" available that addresses an issue I don't have. Wouldn't applying this update

be easier than doing a clean uninstall/install? Doesn't it "do it all" for me?

For the moment I seem to have a workaround that'll help me get some projects actually burned for people, but I do

truly like this program and I'd like to have it fully functional.

thanks for sharing the wisdom....

Logical unit not ready, operation in progress.

The drive may not be operating properly due to unstable PC and devices. Please check your PC and all your device connections.

The software seems to be broken. Either live with the work around you have found, or do the dirty work of reinstalling!

Boy CD, you sure know your stuff!

Bear with me though...

Since it's been established that a successful burn can be done, albiet with another program, it's likely I don't have faulty connections or devices. I take it to mean that the 'unstable pc' would mean poor old emc.

I'll click on the handy link you have below and reinstall.

I didn't think I'd ever be back in this section of the forum, but I'm glad there are a lot of people here that have time to devote to helping out. Thanks all.

While I had been asking for advice here, I also had a help ticket in the system.

Needless to say, I still haven't gotten around to the clean install routine and in the meantime Roxio told me I might try updating the pxengine first, then if no joy, do the clean install.

Well, I tried it and got a popup telling me that it's unable to write to the current directory. Something about moving the installer to a location that has proper read/write permissions. ugh

I'd like to give this a try but I don't know if it's worth the hassle, and also don't know how to proceed.

Any suggestions?

thanks

In case anyone's interested, here's a last post for closure.

Today I performed the clean install yet again making sure I followed it exactly with the exception that I also cleaned out anything from temp folders (which is probably a given).

Still no joy but I take solice in the fact that I tried and other than the final burn stage, all seems functional. At least with the applications in emc that I've used so far. I can create the iso (instead of burning), and burn with Nero. Obviously something in this latest system of mine doesn't play nice with emc10...so here's hoping ver.11 likes me better.

It really is frustrating when software doesn't play nice with each other. You sure gave it your best shot, and I agree with you on hoping EMC 11 likes you better, as well as ALL of us. :):(

ok, I can take a hint and will do as told :)

Update:

I performed the clean install to the letter (might have sneezed when I shouldn't have) and it got me nowhere. Well, it actually got me somewhere but that's right where I started. dangit

So, obviously (?) it may not be emc10 that's the problem, but something on my system it doesn't like?

I know people here don't like the word n*ro, but I do have n*ro ultra 6 installed. It played well with videowave professional 7 and emc8 and I just hoped and assumed it would do so with emc10. This is the only thing on my computer that I can think of that's interferring with emc's ability to burn.

Or, do I dare to try the clean install yet again? Any suggestions?

Btw, upon first starting videowave, it informed me that there was an update to my wmp10 available and it recommended I get it. It had something to do with direct x video acceleration. I declined it and wonder if it's my problem or part of it.

Anyway, I'd appreciate any input I can get at this point with thanks in advance.

I'm sorry, I feel like I'm harrasing people here but I do have another question.

In trying to figure out why my clean install didn't work, I noticed that there are two folders in the HKEY...current..user that I was to delete, a Roxio and Sonic. I actually deleted two Sonic folders. One was named Sonic, the other, Sonic AMR Encoder. When I opened the folder, there where references to emc10 so I assumed it had to go.

Upon looking at my registry today, there is a new Roxio and Sonic folder, but that other Sonic one does not exist.

So, did I delete something I shouldn't have?

I feel so lost....

Thank you both for the input. Since the problem is mainly burning related, I had to wonder.

I think there is more than burning that's a problem though, as the attempt to made a short slideshow last night showed me a slight hiccup during encoding. During the encoding of the menu, the preview window 'hiccuped', only during encoding of the menu, not the slideshow.

I guess I'm left to do the clean install over again. I must have missed something somewhere. I doubt it but I don't really have a choice.
