Cannot Boot Win2000 After Loading Creator 6

Recommended Posts

Running win2000. Loaded Easy CD & DVD Creator 6. Restarted the pc and it kept loading to the point where i should have gotten the sign on window, but instead video went black and another reboot starts. Pc continues to do this. Got it booted by selecting F8 during the boot cycle and selecting the 'Last Known Good Boot Configuration'. Then the pc came up. Suspecting i have conflicting s/w i removed/closed all Roxio icons from the icon tray next to the time clock. System worked ok, but when i restart the pc again, i suspect i will have the same problems again. Do not know how to permenantly remove STARTUP programs to not startup at bootup. Am running Nero, 1ClickDVDCopy, SE Copy to DVD, DVDDecrypter, Photo Album Deluxe. All have there own burners or use each other's burner and i suspect Roxio may be having a problem w/another program. Anyone experience this type of problem.

(1) these are public boards, scanned regularly by google and other search engines, which in turn are regularly scanned by spammers looking for email addresses to "harvest". I'd suggest you click on "edit" and remove your email address.

(2) it is not possible to have more than one Packet-Writing program installed without them conflicting with each other, and it looks like you have two or three (Nero's suite includes InCD, which is a Packet-Writing program).

You can get icons out by using unchecking it in your system configuration utility, but I'm not on WinXP at the moment so can't say exactly what path to take to find it. (It wouldn't hurth to uninstall Drag2Disc - or even ALL Packet-Writing programs - the ones that format discs - since Packet-Writing is best at permantly losing all data.)

Thanks for the suggestion.

That is probably the problem. However, I do need to remove some of the start up items from the icon tray. I am running win2000, not XP, and if you could let me know what the system config utility is, i would appreciate it. MSCONFIG does not work on win2000, but i know there is probably one that will work and if you know what it is, i would appreciate your help.

i use nero InCD so i do not believe i want to remove that one, or else i believe the discs i have created with it will be useless unless they are readable/writable by roxio.

You suggest to uninstall Drag2Disc, is this the only Roxio packet writing program to uninstall, or is there more.

thanks, john

As stated, you can only have one packet writing application installed at a time, thus, only one is included with ECDC. (No sense having two, when only one can be installed, eh?)

As for MSCONFIG, if you have a WinXP or Win98 system available, you can copy the MSCONFIG.EXE program from either one and run it successfully on Windows 2000. If you don't have another system available, if you search on the internet, you can find it posted in several places, download it and copy it to your WINNT\SYSTEM32 directory.

Hope that helps!

Thanks for the suggestions. I will find and download MSCONFIG asap.

Fixed the no boot problem with removal/reinstall of the program. But, this time i installed roxio w/o Drag2DVD, as suggested by the earlier reply. I do not know if i loaded Roxio's packet writing application as i do not know it's name. I still have Nero's InCD loaded and the other programs as indicated in the original thread.

However, i now have a new problem. I was able to register, but cannot download the update engine. I click on the OK button to download updates and a window, all greyed out, opens without the option to check what to download. I click ok and a download window opens indicating it is downloading the download engine, it starts and never completes. ANY IDEAS?

As was stated earlier, Drag2Disc IS the packet-writing program.

Do you have pop-ups blocked? (There is a list of download tips in the FREQUENT ANSWERS post pinned to the top of the board?)

Drag2Disc was not loaded in the reload as i loaded it as custom and elected not to load Drag2Disc.

Sorry for my ignorance about this program. Where would i check for pop-ups being blocked. Would that have anything to do with the fact that now, after the reload w/o Drag2Disc, i cannot download the update engine from roxio.

I will check the FAQs for additional info.

Thanks, again

Pop-up blockers are in the Firewall.

Or, if you are trying to update from the program, try the link in the left-hand column.

Platinum updates are at the top of hte page, Basic updates are at the bottom - choose the one that is approprite, because the other won't work.j

If the popup blocker is part of a firewall, then that should not apply in my case as i have no firewall. The link you mention in the left hand column, is that on the menu page, part of the advance config., or what. My program does not indicate if it is Platinum or not. The packaging just said Easy CD & DVD Creator, so i would guess it is the Basic.

Thanks, John

It is DANGEROUS to be online without a firewall these days. (I have Norton, altho McAffee is also another common choice.)

Left-hand column of THIS page.

If you bought a commercial package in a retail store, it is Platinum.

If it came as a freebie with a burner, it is Basic.

If neither of the above applies, sometimes it is a bit harder to tell, but the updater will say you don't have any relevant programs if you pick the wrong one.

I did not think i had a firewall, but in msconfig, downloaded from the internet, under the services tab, it mentions norton antivirus firewall. So i guess i do have one. Wonder if it is blocking the downloads. It does not bother other downloads.

have downloaded platinum updates from the link. it is version 6.2.0.134

i bought this at best buy, so i guess it is platinum. So i will try the platinum update

Thanks, for all the help and i hope the updates cure the problem.

Per Easy CD & DVD Creator Tech Support, I went into msconfig and disabled all startup options. Went in to Outlook Express and deleted cookies and temp. files to clear cache and cookies. PC not connected to a router. Did not know how to disable Norton firewall as nothing was indicated in the Startup Tab. Tried downloading and it still fails as before. *****HOWEVER, I got it to work by manually downloading an update file, 6.2.0.134, which upgraded Easy CD & DVD Creator to 6.2.0.130. The Advanced Config option now opened a window which was not greyed out and allowed update downloads. I tried it twice and both times it indicated no updates needed/available. FINALLY, IT WORKS. Thanks for your efforts in this matter.

For about 3 years I used Creator easy cd & dvd 6 platinum with Windows ME having no problem. Since Roxio has gone to their new system, I have not been able to down load software onto Windows ME or XP. Each time I call about the problem all I getis finger pointing instead of a solution. Everyone should boycott Roxio until they get their program together.

You have jumped in on OLD post from back in April.....would you please start a new thread with your problem.

In your reply please be specific about what your problem is.

Do you have ME or XP?.

You say "since Roxio has gone to their new system, I have not been able to down load software ", what software?.

We are just fellow users trying to help you but we need to know more info.

Tell us what you have tried to fix your problem, have you re-installed (if so how did you do this).
