Vob Files Hang In Mydvd 10 (emc 10)

pedro.mrcarvalho

Question

Hello to all,

I bought MyDVD Premier 10 (it is part of Easy Media Creator 10) and I'm having the following problem :

>> Here is the problem:

MyDVD 10 Premier cannot import the contents of my DVD into mpeg files. That is, when I use the capture video/video import components these can only convert about 1 minute of each VOB file in the DVD into the output mpeg file!

>> Additional data:

-- My platform: windows vista 32 business Service Pack 1 (with DirectX 10)

-- the DVD I'm trying to convert from is a mini DVD disk JVC DVD-RW double sided (2.8 GB) and it is finalized and formatted as DVD-R (no vro files whatsoever)

-- the mini DVD disk was recorded with a SAMSUNG DVD Camera Recorder model VP-DC171 (no usb connection or the like)

-- the mini DVD disk plays correctly in MyDVD 10 CinePlayer! STRANGE, right?

-- I've copied the mini DVD to a standard size DVD, but the result is the same and it still cannot convert from this copy

-- please, do not suggest me to copy the VOB files to the hard disk and rename them as mpeg. This costs me about 1.5 seconds of frames and I loose the information of the IFO file

Thank you all in advance for any support provided.

With my best regards,

Pedro Carvalho

It is likely there is something embeded into the header info causing the hang. Suggest using Roxio Media import to import the contents of DVD in question instead of simply copying the contents on HDD.

-- I've used media import to convert into mpeg but the result is the same! It can only convert one minute when doing it directly from the DVD

-- In your opinion, what could be embedded into the header info that would cause a hang??

Thanks

They generally utilize their proprietory encoders. Most miniDVD cams are bundled with their own software that has ability to transcode the contents. Does your Samsung accompany with any bundled app? If yes, I would advice using the bundled app to import video before you perform any editing/authoring via My DVD premier. It could be a bug. A quick test would be to use a standard DVDs and try importing it instead of miniDVD.

What leads me to think this is a bug in MyDVD 10 Premier is the fact that the mini dvd disk was finalized by the camera and it can be played back with MyDVD CinePlayer (or any other DVD player program) without any trouble at all!!!

I've even copied the mini disk to a standard size DVD. The problem remains.

The only software I could find at SAMSUNG's site related to my camera was a codec installer that deployed on c:\Program Files\SAMSUNG\SEDG the following files:

mcs_cor2.dll

mcs_dec2.ax

mcs_enc.ax

msvcp71.dll

msvcr71.dll

I've registered the codecs and libraries using regsvr32 (probably this was already done by the installer) but it keeps not solving my problem!

Any additional suggestions? I'm really getting frustrated on this.

However, I shall say thank you for your patience and good will in trying to help me.

I'm not sure precisely what problem we're trying to fix.

You say you can capture all of the contents, except for 1.5 seconds, of your mini-disc, and place it in Videowave for editing if you change the .vob file into mpeg. After editing, you then would have a file you could bring into MyDVD for final output. Is this when it hangs, after editing in Videowave and during output in MyDVD? Or is the problem the inability of Videowave as currently installed on your computer to recognize .vob files?

For additional input data on the problem please check my initial post.

This is getting with my nerves already!

Why are you using Media Import?

I have no problem opening a mini DVD made with a Sony DCR DVD505 in EMC 9 and 10. I make a folder and copy the contents to the folder, or use disc copier or VCC to rip it to the HD. Open VideoWave and I can select the vob files with no problem. I use DVD -R and the disc is closed.

Vob's are mpeg! Copy the mini DVD to a folder on the HD. Open the folder go to tools, folder options, click the view tab, is Hide Extensions for Known File Types Checked?

By editing out the info I was referring to in your original post, my response now seems off base.

Regardless, I will defer to the expert gurus who have picked up the baton ....

Syrallas: I've only changed the layout of the initial post so it does not generate a lot of unnecessary question. Essentially, it has the same semantics of the original one. This means your responses will not get off base.

cdanteek: before your post I did all your suggestions (please see original post). None did work correctly. In particular by opening a VOB in VideoWave allows to play only 1 minute of it. Renaming a VOB to an MPEG yields a loss of 1.5 seconds in frames (not severe, if this will end up as the only remaining possibility)

ggrussell: I'm not using VR mode and the disk is finalized

firenhancer_ Do you mean you can at least play your VOBs from finalized DVD-RW disks in Videowave? I've checked for en/decoders for my camera. Please check on of my previous posts.

Thank you all guys for trying to help...
