My Fix For Drag To Disc "components Missing" Problem

sumi

Question

I'm Running Windows XP SP2

Using Easy Media Creator 9 Deluxe Suite

I had the dreaded message, "Drag-to-Disc could not start because components necessary to run are missing. Please re-install Drag-to-Disc."

I did not see a solution in the EMC 9 or 10 Forum.

I followed various legacy instructions to fix this problem but to no avail -- namely, uninstalling then clean installing a couple of times; doing a repair in different ways.

My solution was to go to C:/Program Files/Roxio/Drag-to-Disc where I had a folder named "Install".

I copied everthing in the Install folder, and pasted it up one level.

Drag-to-Disc started running again.

I was trying to find out which files you shifted, but if that's all you're going to tell us then I guess it's back to square one for everybody, and we'll have to forget about your "fix". It's lucky we hardly ever see that problem reported.

That's strange, because the files in C:/Program Files/Roxio/Drag-to-Disc are not normally duplicated in . . .\Install.

Here are the bunch I would normally expect to find in C:/Program Files/Roxio/Drag-to-Disc in EMC 9 DeLuxe.

Perhaps something moved some or all of them into the Install directory? Curiouser and curiouser . .

Thanks, Sumi.

Good morning,

These are the files that are currently in my c:/Program Files/Roxio/Drag-to-Disc /Install directory that I copied up one level to c:/Program Files/Roxio/Drag-to-Disc folder, which caused D2D to work for a little while...

dla.exe

dlaapi_w.dll

dlabmfsm.sys

dlaboiom.sys

DLACDBHM.SYS

dlacmd_w.exe

dladhk_m.sys

DLADiag.EXE

DLADiagM.SYS

DLADiagSetup.EXE

dladresm.sys

dlaifs_m.sys

dlainstw.dll

dlamrmsg.iso

dlaopiom.sys

DLAPmonM.SYS

dlapoolm.sys

DLARTL_M.sys

dlaudf_m.sys

dlaudfam.sys

drvmcdb.sys

drvnddm.sys

pconfig.dcf

I get "No Recorder" on the D2D icon...

Thank you Sumi,

The same files are in my Install folder as yours, and you've seen the list which are in my Drag-to-Disc folder. Normally none of the files exist in both folders.

I was thinking after your first post that perhaps some vital files had been moved out of Drag-to-Disc and into Install and you'd copied them back into their right place, but obviously nothing like that has happened.

I have to confess I don't know why your D2D stopped, started again, and has now stopped again. In most of the previous cases of "components necessary to run are missing" error that I've heard of, other programs such as iTunes were corrupting the paths in memory pointing to these components so they were pointing to the wrong places and the components couldn't be found. In those cases removal of the interfering program fixed the problem with D2D. Perhaps that's what's happening with yours.

In any event you will be better off sticking to Creator Classic as you suggested, but thank you for staying around to post that list of files for me and clarify events. I appreciate it.

Regards,

Brendon
