Newbie Needs Help Reading .toast Format Disk File

I'm really confused (as usual). I was given a file that has a .toast extension. I'm assuming it's a disk image file. How do I retrieve whatever data is on the .toast file onto my desktop. If I try to copy the file (hoping for a conversion), all I get is a new .toast file. Should I not be using Roxio (8.0.4) Toast Titanium. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
