Copying Dvd Issue

chargerboy

Question

Hi, when I try to copy a DVD using MYDVD, I keep getting a message that asks me to insert a blank DVD in drive.

I always put a brand new BLANK DVD into the drive and it doesnt accept it..Also I notice on the bottom left where it tells you the amount of space available, it recognizes the media as a CD when actually I have a DVD in the drive. It says I have 700MB available when I should have about 4.3GB. How can this issue be resolved? Thankyou

Thankyou Lynn, I will check this out :)

The thread didnt really give much info. I know my DVD burner works just fine because I am able to write files to disc ..Its just when I try to use MyDVD to copy things is when I run into issue. The program came with my computer. And its a limmited edition.

so that my be the reason. I dont use the program much but I will probably just upgrade or download a different copying program. Thankyou for your help Lynn:)

The thread on AfterDawn wasn't anything to do with your problem. Someone wanted to reflash his firmware, was all. He didn't get a helpful answer, either.

Before you give up on your limited edition, see if it will accept a burning engine update which might help MyDVD recognize that you have a blank DVD and not a CD in the drive. The limited edition may be deliberately 'nobbled' and might reject the PX engine update, but it's worth a try and might work for you. Nothing lost if it doesn't.

There's a link to it here.

No, thanks very much, it looks as if you have done all the right things but the PX upgrade isn't going to help you.

I thought it was worth a try if it saved you from having to get other software, but it hasn't improved things and you're still in the same position as when you made post #6 above. Thank you for persisting long enough to try my suggestion.

While you're working out what software to get, can I suggest you look at a download of the free utility, ImgBurn, from here. It's a very nice utility, very small, and can make an image from a folder set or from a disc, and then burn that image to disc. It's very reliable and doesn't interfere with other things, and it might do what you need while you choose another burning program.

Regards,

Brendon

Thankyou for your suggestions Brendon .I will certainly have a look at that software :)

Thanks. Please let us know how it goes, because if it works we can suggest it to others with that problem, but if it doesn't I'll know Roxio has stymied it.

I did try it out and unless Im supposed to do something else besides downloading and unzipping it ,

It doesnt seem to really change anything.

Download, unzip, then double click the .exe installer and follow the on screen instructions.

Yes, I believe thats what I did. I dowloaded it..then I clicked on the installer icon which I assume was the exe. file (there was only one file to click after it unzipped)..And then I followed the instruction s which basically ask for 2 responses, one for installation..and the other for if you were finished click it. Does that sound like I might have missed a step ? Thanks

What is the id string of your burner? Right-click 'My Computer' > properties > Hardware > Devie manager > click on the + beside 'DVD/CD-ROM drives', and copy the id string of your burner drive - character for character, upper case and lower case exactly as shown, space for space.

Lynn

The id is PHILLIPS DVD+-RW DVD8701

Thanks
