How Can I Make A Mp3 Disc ( Show The Directories For The Music?

General_Jah

Question

Hi Guys,

I successfully have added mp3 files to a compact flash disc as well as burned them to a CD. However there is a problem. I am doing this to play them in my new car but it's not showing the directories that I have copied over to the new discs. It is able to read the songs fine, it's just they are all listed on there with no directory structure at all. Do you guys have any idea what file I need to add to enable my car to read the directory structure so it's not just a long list of 500 mps songs?

I know my car can read the directory structure as I have some old discs that I made with nero, which I guess somehow automatically added the needed information for my car to read the directories.

Hopefully this makes sense. Any help/thoughts would be greatly appreciated!!

If you used Music Disc Creator for the MP3 disc - did you simply add all the files in 1 long list then burn the disc? - this would give the result you appear to have.

I creat individual folders underneath the top level and give them appropriate names, then move the tracks into the relevant folders. Thus, when playing on my car radio, it shows the folder name, track title etc (all the info selected to display). I can also search for folders or tracks etc. but these features depend on what your car radio is capable of.

EMC 10 has many applications within it.....be specific.

Also, do you have the full retail version of EMC or did it come with your computer.

yes it's the full retail

Well the issue I am running into is my 2008 infiniti G35 can read a 16 gig flash card. I ran the tag editor and added tags to all the songs but I can't figure out how to tag the folders. I don't have all the songs just copied onto the disc, they are each in their own directory.

General Jah,

You say you have made an MP3 disc with EMC 10.

If you can't name the part of EMC 10 that you used to do this, would you at least retrace your steps and tell us what you did, step by step?

e.g.

Ran the Home menu system

Selected Audio Guide

clicked on Quick Music DVD . . . or whatever you did . . . and so on, step-by-step and in full technicolor detail. Leave nothing out.

This way, even if you can't see what you were using, we can follow your steps and work out what you've done so we can tell you how to do it better.

Thank you,

Brendon

Perhaps if you try the method I use for MP3 discs it may solve some of your issues.

1. Open Music Disc Creator (MDC), select 'MP3/WMA disc', create & name the folders.

For each folder, click 'add music files', navigate to where they are, select and click 'add'

2. Alternatively, open MDC, select 'MP3/WMA disc'. Alongside MDC, open the directory structure on your hard disc and navigate to where your music folders are. Drag the folders across to MDC. Once there, organise the folders into the structure you want.

3. Check the files in each folder to ensure the audio tags as are they should be, editing as appropriaate. I usually check the box 'embed or replace tags inside the audio files (if supported by the format).

4. When done, click on 'burn'

I cannot answer your question on folder structure for your 16GB flash drive as I don't use them, but you could do a test with a couple of folders by following the process above and instead of burn', select the File menu, then 'send to portable device' and select your flash drive to see if that works. if not, then sorry, but I cannot help with that.

The help files for each of the elements of EMC may give you some more ideas.

GBR
