Vista Installation Of Creator 10

I'm seeing this same issue. Install completes fine and when I reboot and try to start Creator 10 it churns the hard drive for a bit but nothing ever shows up. When I try and run CinePlay, I get the splash screen, some hard drive churn, and then nothing.

I've heard reference to folks saying they have services from Sonic/Roxio in their services list. I don't have those services. Also, when I try to install the content CD, it fails saying that I don't have Media Creator 10 installed.

So I'm wondering if the services didn't register properly or something. At least it's something to investigate. Does anyone know how to manually register the services with Vista? Is this even something that can be done? I have an open ticket with support as well and I'm still going through the forums.

I've followed the steps here multiple times (http://kb.roxio.com/content/kb/Creator/000127CR) and even ran Ccleaner to get rid of additional registry entries. I've disabled the firewall and all security protections and I'm still seeing the same thing.

Thanks for any help!

Hello, I purchased Easy Media Creator 10, but have not yet installed it. I am going to install the updated version instead. I also purchased Dazzle video capture device. I have not installed that yet, either. I have been unsure whether to install since I have Vista Home Premium O.S. and have experienced problems with almost all of my current programs. Any suggestions? Thank you.

This is the reply I got from roxio. You're welcome to try it. If you do, let me know what happened.

Seems awfully complicated just to install a program.

Good Luck

In order to correct this issue, you are going to need to perform a clean install.

1) You will need to use the Windows Install Cleanup Utility described below to uninstall (do not use add/remove programs) and then follow the rest of the steps in this article. Before reinstalling perform steps 2-4 in this email.

http://kb.roxio.com/content/kb/Creator/000127CR

2) Create a new user account.

Click Start and click Control Panel.

Click User Accounts and Family Safety.

Under User Accounts, click Add or remove user accounts.

Click Create a new account.

Type in the account name. Select the account type: Standard or Administrator.

Click Create Account.

Select the account you just created. Click Create a password.

Type in a password for the user account and an option password hint.

Click Create password.

Reboot, log into the new user account

3) Make sure to disable Windows Defender before reinstalling.

Right click on My Computer

Click Manage

Click Services and Applications

Click Services

In the Services window on the right, click on Windows Defender

Click Stop the service (to the left side of the right window).

4) Register vbs script

Go to start -> accessories and the right click on command prompt and click 'run as administrator', next type 'cd C:\Windows\System32' and then type 'regsvr32 vbscript.dll'. It should confirm that vbscript has been registered.

5) Turn off User Account Control.

1. Go to Start

2. Click on Control Panel

3. Double click on 'User Accounts'.

4. Choose your user account.

5. On the bottom of the open window, you will see an option for User Account Control. Change the Drop down to turn User Account Control (UAC) Off.

6. Restart as required.

6) Please download and install using the updated Easy Media Creator installation files.

http://www.roxio.com/enu/support/emc10/software_updates.html

When you download be sure to click Save and then install by right clicking on the installation file and choosing run as admin.

Make sure that you get rid of any Roxio or Sonic programs that may have come with your computer. Shut off your anti-virus and anti-malware before you install to a clean and defragged hard drive that has lots of space. You may want to do the initial installation with your computer disconnected from the internet. After you reboot, you can turn everything back on if it didn't start by itself and connect to the internet to register.

Thanks for your help Jim

I followed the instructions and had to create a new account Roxio before it installed. It did so or so it seemed.

I tried to start the program but nothing came up.

Also, when I try to install the Content it tells me that I first have to install the program before I can install the Content. So apparently the Content exe doesn't recognize that there is a Creator 10 installation on my computer.

Any hints?

Thanks,
