Amazingly Slow Burn Times For Bluray

Mike-D

Question

Is there any reason why burning data backups to a BluRay disc should take as long as 8 hours? It can't be the media, because the same data burned from a disc image made ahead of time (the image takes about 10 minutes to make) takes under 40 minutes...but from files on the drive, it's hours and hours.

Is there a setting somewhere to control this?

eta: clarify that I'm doing data backups not movie creation

Guess you talk about two different processes ...

1. image (containing encoded files already) --> burnig w/ Toast = "short" time

2. files --> encoding w/ Toast (very time consuming) resulting in an "internal image" --> burning process ("short")

Encoding time takes up to 15 times and more of original length of video ... depends of technical environment ...

Got it? ;-)

Are you saying that Toast makes an image automatically while it burns? If so, that leads to a bunch of other questions, not the least of which is why does Toast start burning immediately, when creating the image ahead of time takes about 10 minutes? I really don't think it works this way.

The issue is this: For data set X, the burn time is 7 hours when burned directly from the files that sit on a hard drive, and about 40 minutes when burned from a disk image created in Toast ahead of time.

Is there an explanation for this huge disparity?
