I have received a laptop with Easy CD Creator 5 on it. I have a HL-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC-4240. It reads and play audio cds fine but does not burn although the cd rom does say rewritable on it. Any information regarding this problem would be greatly appreciated. Is there anyway I can burn a CD using this CD ROM drive.

Try using the built in burning program in XP to burn a small test file to a CD-RW. If you dont know how to use the XP burning program just go into the XP Help and Support and search on "make a cd" (without the quotes).

Cjamps,

What version of ECDC5 are you running? Please run Creator, and go to the top toolbar Help, About to open a box which will tell you.

Which version of the drive do you have, the 4240B or the 4240N ?

The HL-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC-4240B and GCC-4240N have been recognized by ECDC ever since version 5.02c. If you update your ECDC to 5.3.5 using the big updater in the Version 5 section of the software updates page you should be okay to go.

Regards,

Brendon

I have HL-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC-4240N and ECDC 5.3.5.10. It seems to be a problem though with either the cd rom drive or the operating system because whatever CD I put in it does not recognize as a CDR or a CDRW eventhough it does read from them. I am running a DELL INSPIRON 1100. Is there any way I could look for help on this through the internet. Any help or advice on this would be appreciated. Thanx.

The specifications for Dell Inspiron 1100

http://reviews.cnet.com/laptops/dell-inspi...7-21127907.html

show the optical drive as a Combo drive, that is, it reads and writes CDs, and reads DVDs. Reviews of the Dell Inspirion 1100 on both cnet.com and zdnet.com are dated 4/03.

1. Did you try the test ogdens suggested earlier? This is to detrmine if the laser is still capable of writing to a CD.

2. Are the discs you are trying to write to blank, or do they have something on them which you are trying to add to - and if so, which application within the suite was used to write them?
