Help! Unrecoverable Device Error Occurred. Error While Encoding Movie.

sampsoncm

Question

Help! I need to make a DVD presentation tomorrow and went out and bought Easy CD & DVD version 9. and it says it is vista compatible. I installed it on my Dell Vostro 1500 which is new as well and at the end of the instillation it said that there was a conflict and it wasnt installed correctly. It tried to get the fix itself which was noexistent as far as microsoft was concened. I came here and downloaded and installed the patch I believe was correct for vista and now after compiling all my information and slideshow and music and everything... I go to burn it and it says

unrecoverable device error occurred. Error while encoding movie.

what do I do now. I have already checked all my drivers and they say they are up to date and the best one is installed. What do I do? I am fairly computer literate but this CD said it was EASY and I have been working on this for almost 2 days now.... ahhh!

Thanks!

Caleb

Since you seem to have Vista, are you able to use the Vista DVD Maker to create your DVD?

Actually, trying to create a video production in 2 days with unfamiliar software, even when it does say "Easy", is asking for trouble. :glare:

I either do not have vista dvd maker or cannot find it. I have windows movie maker which is what I made the videos in that I am trying to burn. Unfortunately I have to have a different program to burn it. Also if all i had to do is copy the video and burn 2 days is plenty with the software. I have absolutely no problems getting the thing put together it is just when i hit burn to image or disk that an issue arises. It is a software hardware problem not a usability problem. :)

Hi,

Go have a look at this pinned post in the version 9 Vista forum. [The RedBox software is a subset of EMC 9]

http://forums.support.roxio.com/index.php?showtopic=20101

Probably the 32-bit patch will fix your problem, but since you have a Dell machine you could install the Dell update which is offered at the bottom of the post.

Regards,

Brendon

Ok I used the dell update at the bottom. Everything restarted and the warning was no longer there about DLA... but I go to burn the video again... cant do it with either the image or to the DVD. Gives me the same message about Device error. It really doesnt even start to burn it... just takes a second or two before it reads the error message. Should I install the vista 32 patch or just stick with the dell one.

If dxdiag can't run you probably don't have DirectX installed

Go here, download and install it

For XP (DX9) http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=en

For Vista (DX10) http://www.gamesforwindows.com/en-US/About...irectX10-a.aspx

I was pretty sure i have it as i play games some and it is necessary... I went to your link for vista and ran it and it says I have it or the most current version of dx installed already... so what gives if i cant find it when i hit search????

ok so it is still not working....

I went to http://kb.roxio.com/content/kb/General%20I...mation/000065GN and was reading up about general burning issues. when i got to this part...

Update your video drivers. To find out what video device you need to update.

Windows XP: Click on Start --> Run.

Windows Vista: Click on Start --> and click in the Search field to activate the cursor.

Type "dxdiag" and click on the OK.

Click the Display tab at the top of that window and note your Device Name and Manufacturer.

You can access the drivers by visiting your computer manufacturer's website or by going to the video card manufacturer's website directly.

well i tried this and when i searched for dxdiag just like it says but my system doesnt find it.... what does that mean then?

Nope it still doesnt work. Even with the sample videos. Even an image.iso

same error message.......Unrecoverable Device Error Occurred. Error While Encoding Movie.

I have never had an issue like this before. All my other software has worked quite well.

Also I am not sure of what you are referring exactly to when you say what option was used to export a video file. I made the video in WMM and clicked publish it to computer and in all actuallity the largest video is 241mb next is 117mb and next is 100mb in their properties anyway.

You should be outputting from WMM to DV-AVI or at least to High Quality video; that will atleast keep the best quality of video if you want to create a DVD.

Unless you still have the option checked to burn to DVD while burning to the iso image file, the error you are getting has nothing to do with your burner but may be video card related

Thanks for trying the suggestions. Yeh I was referring to the option chosen to publish video. At this time, it rules out your assets. Can you list your drive specs with firmware revision. This can be achieved by going to the Tools option under Easy CD and DVD burning and then selecting Disc Information. Device error still gives me a feeling something to do with the drive.

Interesting. I know quite a bit of time has been spent. But if you could create a new project using couple of Vista Sample videos. You mention using WMM to create your videos. What option was used to export to a video file?

I added a bit to my last response... also how do you save it to 4.3?

For a test, it is possible to reduce the project size say by removing one of the video clip and see if that proceeds without error. I would shave the project to 4.3 to test results.

And I am not sure what the issue is but the video guide tutorial at Home does not work either... never has.

I was able to locate a related thread. What is the length of video here? How big is the project size when viewing under MyDVD express?

its a 4.7G disk with 157 mb left or 4542mb used...

it has 3 wmv video files on it all 22minutes long so a total of 66 minutes of video.. and then a slideshow with 50pics in it... and a background song.

Also it absolutely does not even make an iso image without the same error message. And I have tried it with only one video file on it and it still doesnt work. HELP!

Ok so I got tired and uninstalled and reinstalled to see whether that would make a difference now that i have the latest drivers and a new driver for my dvd drive. It installs correctly and reboot. I turn it on and I get this message...

Program compatibility assistant

A Driver is blocked due to compatibility issues

Driver: Sonic Solutions DLA

Publisher: Sonic Solutions

Location: Unknown

A driver is installed that causes stability problems with your system. This driver will be disabled. Please contact the driver manufacturer for an update that is compatible with this version of windows.

It then prompts me to check for solutions automatically and I click yes and it says no solutions found. Contact manufacturer.

now what do I do?????

same old problem.... installed fine. Go to burn image or dvd and it gives me the same old Device Error. Should I uninstall and reinstall Easy CD & DVD??? I am running out of time and sleep. I got the new video driver installed and ran.... it had an older date on it than the one I had. Ran it... same problem still... did the update driver and it installed the one I had before and says everything is cool....

still no go!

Optiarc_Ad-5560A-DD12 seems to be drive firmware update :). Let us know how the video driver update goes.

Try downloading from mfg site i.e. nVidia. By DT I meant DeskTop system.

Ok... went to NVIDIA they said i had to go to Dell cause it is specific. Went to Dell and found download for cd drive Optiarc_Ad-5560A-DD12. I downloaded it and went to run it and it says EAccessViolation. ANOTHER PROBLEM AHHHHHHHH!

then I found the one for the video card and download for GeForce 8400 and am downloading now.

Well most video intensive apps are hardware independant especially video card. I have absolutely no issues doing what you attempted to do. Yeh I hear your frustration but does not help the situation. If you are on a time crunch, try installing on a DT system if you have one and meets system specs. In the meantime, would you happen to post your video card info along with driver version and date.

It has an NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS

the driver verision is 7.15.11.5669

driver date is 10/4/2007

I have tried to update it and it says it is current. Also what do you mean by try installing on a DT system? I am not familiar with that abbreviation.

My guess is you are using MyDVD Express. See of the suggestion on this thread helps. I would also ensure video chip/card driver are up to date.

my video cards and drivers are all up to date. I checked your link and I cant even get it to burn an image. I unchecked the burn to DVD and checked save image file and it gave me the same error message. Unrecoverable Device Error Occurred. Error While Encoding Movie

Shouldnt you be able to buy a brand new program that says it is compatible with your computer..

put it in and install it...

open the application...

and actually be able to use it properly without anything else having to be done?

I am on a time crunch here so sorry if I sound bitter.
