My Dvd/ My Dvd Express Causes Computer To Shut Down

scrawford

Question

Hi,

I recently upgraded to Roxio Easy Media Creator 10, and all of the program areas seem to work well, with the exception of the My DVD area. When I start the program, I get the typical My DVD screen, but shortly after the process starts, the video portion of the screen goes black, and then the computer shuts down / restarts. I've downloaded the updates, but I still have no luck. I downloaded the newest version of DirectX 9, and I adjusted the graphics acceleration. I reduced it to the point that when I attempted my DVD, I was informed that I had insufficient graphics capabilities. I also attempted to disable my AGP texture acceleration. I also downloaded the latest drivers for my video card. I have 2GB of RAM.

I would keep working with the old version of Media Creator, but it doesn't support the HD videos (that I'm aware of).

I'd welcome any suggestions. Thanks!

I'm finally back at my computer, and went through the entire "to do" list for the "clean installation" of Media Creator 10. I downloaded the Microsoft Windows Installer, removed all the files associated with Roxio / Sonic, emptied the recycle bin, and reinstalled the program. However, I had to grab my hair when I discovered the same problem. At first I thought MyDVD was going to open, but at the last moment, the MyDVD screen portion went blank and the computer shut down. The old version worked fine. I just ordered another computer to run on the side and use strictly for video, so unless anyone has more words of wisdom, I'll have to leave MyDVD alone for the time being. Thanks

Use the nVidia control panel to set the card performance to best performance and away from best appearance; check to make sure that the anisotropic filtering and the anti-aliasing is set to software (program) controlled. Run the encoding test in Video Wave or MyDVD to see where the dot stays. Try again, If that doesn't cure the issue, then switch to software encode. You'll lose some transitions but everything else should be better.

Just in case. Did you install the card or was it pre-installed? Is it possible that the built in video chip is being used rather than the NVidia card? You did mention that you adjust the video acceleration, did you notice when you opened dxdiag?
