Mydvd Does Not Recognize Sound Before Burn

sychar

Question

i am trying to burn some home movies onto dvd. my windows media player will even play the sound and the video from the clip i am trying to burn just fine. none of the roxio programs will recognise the sound when i play the videos before I try and burn them. the video plays fine and the video burns great onto dvd. again... no sound... the clips i am trying to burn are in avi format and i have windows vista 32 bit. I am kind of a newbee and i apreciate your help!! I am guessing roxio is not avi freindly... are there updates or codec for roxio, or how can I switch the avi file to a file that roxio will burn both video and audio to dvd?

EMC 10 is very .avi friendly. Where did your .avi originate?

a samsung model 630 digital camera.

I just remembered.. i do have k-lite codec on my computer, that helps my media player play stuff... with vista rendering my audigy 2 zs card almost to nothing, i am really beginning to dislike vista!

by the way... awesome grandkids!!! and thanks for serving our country!

Sychar,

I have a couple of questions

(1) Exactly what Roxio programs are you working with please, and are they from a full retail Easy Media Creator 10 software package or from one of the cut-down software packages that you can either get free from Dell or other OEM suppliers, or buy at a reduced price?

(2) What video and audio codecs are used in those AVIs from your Samsung, please? There is a small, free, and very useful 'codec appliance' which will tell you so you can let us know. It's called GSpot, and it's available from here at Headbands.com.

If you run GSpot and drag one of the AVIs onto GSpot's information box you'll see the video information at the top right where I've ringed it, and the audio information at the bottom left. Can you tell us what they are, as your answer (2) please?

I got Easy Media Creator 10 Suite from Wallmart.  Full retail package I think.  I paid around $80 for it.  I do not remember exactly how much.  It is the box listed on roxio.com I have tried burning with mydvd, mydvd express, copy dvd express.  Cine player will play both the picture and sound.  but I haven't figured out how to burn both video and sound.

This is from the left side where you circled.0x0007 (MULAW)

At the far right of your circled box, neither one of the two boxes are lit up.

This is from the top right side of gspot.

MJPG     Motion JPEG

My sound card is an Audigy 2 ZS.  With Vista 32 bit Home, none of the inputs work because they do not have the drivers written yet acording to Creative.com.  All of my outputs work fine.  With Cineplayer working with both sound and audio, I would not think it has anything to do with the sound card.

With Vista Home, it will not let you play DVD's.  I paid for Roxio 3GP decoder pack $14.95 so I could watch DVD's in the spring, when Vista 32 was put on the computer.  I put K-lite codex pack within the week in order to see if this would solve the problem with easy media creator suite 10 not picking up the audio for burning.

I am blown away with how fast I am getting feed back!

Thank you so much!

Hi,

It seems this is a common problem with Samsung cameras which use this mulaw [µ-law] codec. There are a number of suggestions and solutions in this topic http://www.moviecodec.com/topics/32097p1.html. Post number 6 is worth working your way through, carefully and methodically.

If that doesn't fix your problem, several codec sets are recommended in the same topic.

The solution is for xp and i am running vista. on the vista disk, i could not find MSG711.AC_, but i do have a xp operating disk. would you suggest getting msg711._ and running it in vista? i know nothing about compatability between the two OM's.

again, thanks

No, I've seen some awful results when software written for one operating system is run in another, so I wouldn't suggest that one except as a last resort.

I'd be inclined to check out some of the codec solutions first. I see the 'Ace Megapack' was mentioned in that Moviecodec.com topic I mentioned.

I went back to gspot to take another look. In the audio box on the left side, the same one you wanted me to send you 0x0007 (MULAW) from microsoft... What the codec was, in the audio box, two lines down, after Stat, it is highlighted in green and says Codec(s) Installed. Would you suggest that I try to install the codec that you listed in your last post, just to see if it kicks stuff around? Or to reinstall easy media creator 10? i was wondering if this would have EMC start using the MULAW codex... I will wait for your responce. You definately have lots more experience than I do!

there are people in the forum you sent that has made comments that the ace megapack

has compatability problems with adobi premier and quicktime... or so they thought... I am sorry i was bouncing around their forum and do not have the web addresses. could this simply be a compatability problem with the codec? i think i will first wait for your responce, but then try some different codec packages... sound good? or what is your recomendation?

Thank you!!

Sychar,

Most of the cut-down or the OEM versions of this Roxio software have several audio and video codecs deliberately disabled, however if you have the full version that shouldn't be an issue.

I have experience with many different codecs, but none previously with mulaw, which is why I can't say authoritatively "Do this and all will be well". In GSpot, if you click on the '1' under the MS A/V in the proposed solutions and tests, GSpot should tell you if it could decode both audio and video, else it will try other codecs and tell you if it's successful.

I'd suggest trying some different codec packs. You should be able to uninstall any which either misbehave or won't work.

Brendon
