Encoding, Menu Button And Chapter Problems

twistedjazzman

Question

The problem I'm having is regarding menu buttons and chapter issues. After I burn my projects to DVD+R DL ISO file the buttons are messed up. Normally the when you hover over the text it highlights and when you click it the movie starts. For me, the highlighted part is shifted to the right and you have to click there to get the movie to start. The text is even larger and half or more of the text isn't even visable. I also added chapters for the movies, but I unchecked the generate chapter menus, because I didn't want the extra submenus. I have all the movies in line, but now the chapters I made are all out of order for each movie. When I used the preview before encoding everything was perfect, but afterward was anything but. I even rebuilt the project all over again and I got the same result. I ran repair software from disc and that didn't help at all. The quality of the video seems to be degraded too. Has anyone seen a problem like this before? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

To save media, you can burn to ISO in MyDVD (Image) then create a Virtual Drive to load and view the ISO. This is done through the Home program, Disc Image Loader.

That is what i usually do. So far I haven't wasted a single disc. I just notice that the my ISO file size is smaller then usual which would probably explain why my video what degraded. It's burn my projects at 6gb instead of 8.5gb. I don't know why it is doing this. When I'm burning it shows my dvd size as 8.5gb. I figure squeezing all that video into 6gb could be causing the my problem. The question is why is it doing it. I've done projects like this many times before and haven't had any problems at all.

This happened to me recently. Fearing that the problem was inside the ISO that I had generated, I quickly did another burn, hoping that it was just a bad burn that caused the problem.

Surely enough, the second burn worked fine. This has only ever happened once. So, for me, it was just a bad burn. But if you're experiencing this over and over again, is it possible for you to try another burner?

I haven't burned to a disc at all. Something is happening in encoding. What I do is create ISO files, then I use VLC media player to view the files to make sure that it encoded properly before I actually burned to disc. Doing it this way, I don't have to worry about wasting a single disc. As you all know DVD DL disc are expensive.

You didn't answer my simple question, what is the length?

Don't get hung up on file sizes as they mean very, very little in Video work and tell us nothing.

In MyDVD, open the Project Properties and see what the settings are set to.

I'm more then positive that its not the size. I've tried doing some older projects that came out perfect and I'm having the same problem. Those project were about the same length as my current project. Each movie was about 22minutes and there are 9 movies per disc, so about 198minute per disc .I've done this more the 10 time with version 9 without a problem. The project size of the ISO files usually come out to around 7.4GB, but the size I've been getting are around 6.2GB. I've tried rendering set to software and hardware. I've uninstalled and reinstall EMC10 and I'm still have the same problem. I've installed EMC10 on another computer and I'm having the same problem there too.

I thought that I burned some projects that I built with EMC9, with EMC10 after I upgraded, but I might be wrong. I'm really starting to think that the problem itself is EMC10. I'm going to reinstall EMC9 and see if I have the same problem.

I am on vacation and don't have access to my main PC…

One thing I notice, you cannot skip to the next movie. You can skip to Chapters but Titles will never work that way, look to any commercial DVD and you will see what I mean. – assumes we are talking about the same thing

But this does not explain why you are having trouble with EMC10!

198 minutes per disc, IS a problem.:blink::blink::blink:

Need to know the Length of your video. The 'degraded video' sound like what you would get if you are trying to pack more than 2 hours on a DL.

You may need to shift to Software Render – MyDVD – Tools – Options.

Likewise your video card drivers sound like they need updated.

It isn't the program per sa… It is difficult to work this through as you don't answer questions but pop away on different tangents.

So we are on the same page, list in detail your steps with all the settings that you go through. Then someone will be able to duplicate them and see what happens.

I reinstalled EMC9 and its working perfectly. I don't know why I'm having the problem with EMC10. I've already done two projects without a problem. After encoding they came out to around 7.4GB in size.

I'll tell you step by step how build my projects.

I use the default templet from EMC9. I think its called seasons you can find it on EMC10 also.

Create three submenus under the main menu.

Delete my menu text in all menus

Change background on all menus with usually 1024x768 jpeg images

Change menu audio (mp3) on all menus and increase length, usually to max 30sec

Add Movies, Usually 3 per submenu, around 22min each

Right click each movie, edit chapter, uncheck generate chapter menu/update chapter menu

Add chapters usually two per movie

Now I just arrange the buttons they way like

Set disc size to 8.5 at bottom

Click file, project setting, under movie button set to play all movie in project.

Click burn, uncheck burn to disc, check save disc image, set DL target media to +R DL

Click Burn

I use VLC media player to preview the ISO file.

Everything is working well on EMC9. The encoding problems are gone. I am having a problem skipping from movie to movie. The chapters I created in the individual movies work fine, but I can't skip from one movie to the other. I have to let the movie end or go back to the submenu and click the next movie. That problem really doesn't bother me that much. If you can tell me how to fix it, that would be great. If not, I can deal with it.

Yes we are talking the about the same thing. I was able to do it before though. I added the movies all as separate files but I was still able to cycle back and forth from movie to movie. I did change my movie button setting from play movie only to play all movie on project. I really didn't think that was the problem. I change the setting back and it didn't have any affect. I have been lazy and started using older project to start new ones, because of the templet design. Maybe I have to start from scatch again.

Ever sense I upgraded I've been having weird problems. The only reason I upgraded was because I was have a weird problem were videowave was eating up all my CPU time, and I'm running an AMD Dual Core processor . It got so bad that I couldn't do anything. nothing would work. The only way out was to hit the reset button. It didn't happen all the time, but when it did, as soon as you start tried to edit your menu your CPU time went through the roof. It got annoying

Video work "eats up" a lot of CPU time and others have pointed out that having dual-core CPU really does not speed up the rendering process.

Have you defragged your hard drive and cleared out the proxy files?

Using 'Old' projects is not a good idea… Looking at them to see how you did something or what settings were used is great, but MyDVD does not respond well to massive changes…

This is an area that I have good intentions[/i to look into sometime…

Please keep us informed of your results.

If you are still experiencing slowdowns, you might consider getting a new HD and starting anew. You can put your old HD on as secondary and copy files to the new one. Eventually you will want to format the old one.

While this may seem extreme at first glance, you cannot believe how much better programs run without the acculated junk that PC seem to attract.
