Very Slow Burning

Question

Hi All,

I have Roxio Creator DE which came preinstalled with my Dell Vostro. My question is although I have a 8x dvd burner and burn 16x dvd discs from verbatim the max burn speed is .92x. How can I increase this lightning fast speed of burning the disc?

TIA,

Novik

It sounds as if you are trying to burn faster than your system can feed data to the drive, so you are getting continual buffer underruns.

Say for example your burner can max out at 8x, but your system can only feed the data at 6x. If the burning buffer runs dry of data then the 'buffer underrun protection' system cuts in and turns the burner off. After a while the buffer refills and the drive gets turned on again, but it quickly runs empty and turns off once more. When this keeps happening, your nett burn speed goes waaay down, and you might have trouble making an effective 1x burn because of all the stops and starts.

In that particular system you'd be better burning at 4x, because you'd get a good 4x burn without any hiccups.

Try the Roxio Help system for ways to avoid buffer underruns, and apply those methods. One of them will be burning at a lower speed. Try dropping your burn rate to half of what you earlier set it to. If you get a good burn at close to what you set, then you know you're on the right track. You might be able to see the buffer underrun prevention system cutting in and out on your drive if it is needed, as the pattern of LED flashes from the burner is likely to change and catch your attention.

Brendon

Another thing that can drastically slow down the burn speed is the settings on the IDE controller itself

Go to control panel, system, device managetr and check the properties on IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers (primary and secondary depending on where your DVD is connected)

If it says PIO mode, right click and uninstall - reboot and check again to see if it shows DMA.

If the above are not your situation, are you measuring the encoding and burning speed? Encoding takes a lot of time depending on your computer. Encoding and burning at the same time sometimes leads to burn errors. Best practices seems to be encoding to an ISO file and then copying that ISO to a disc using Copy and Convert or Creator Classic.

I'm not sure you have the ISO option in that OEM software.

Waht are you burning to the disc?
