Upgrade Pricing, Where Is It?

PeterSanders

Question

Hi

If I go to the Roxio online "shop" to buy a NEW copy of Creator 2009 is listed at $99.00 less $20.00 mail in rebate. = $79.00

If I go to the Roxio online "shop" to buy an UPGRADE to Creator 2009 is listed at $79.00 AFTER $20.00 mail in rebate. = $79.00

Each page shows a different "lead" price, however at this time the nett cost for NEW or UPGRADE is the same $79.00.

BTW when you select the upgrade option and watch the top advertising banner VERY closely, you just may see an image that reads save up to 50%. You have to be very sharp eyed to see it.

I *think* I would like to upgrade, but NOT at the same price as new purchasers. As loyal users we are normaly rewarded with some special pricing.

kind regards

Peter

The way I read the ad, the price is $99. But if you upgrade, the final price is $79.99. The $20 applies only to upgrade purchase. See the "*" symbol beside the $79.99.

I believe Jess / Malatekid has hit the nail on the head. The mail in rebate form, here, paragraph 3 (b ), requires proof of prior ownership of an EMC product. So, I don't think anyone who buys Creator '09 w/o some prior version of EMC qualifies for the $20.00 rebate.

Ahh yes, I had a fixation on the mail in rebate and obviously ignored the upgrade bit :)

Thanks for the info.

So my only problem now is how do I order this download from Australia? I was able to purchase the EMC 10 u/g last year without the mail in rebate (as I am in Australia). I searched for the message (from Roxio) that described how I was to place the order, however I think it has been archived or deleted. I have posed this question to Roxio so they may again provide the details. If someone here knows how I place such a purchase then please let me know...

Thank you...

Kind regards

Peter

PeterSanders ...

a word of warning ... I have just purchased Creator 2009 (from the Australian Site) and got the mail in rebate butthe terms and conditions state

Terms and Conditions: This form must accompany your request. Your request must be postmarked within 30 days from date of purchase. This offer is good only in the 50 United States, the District of Columbia and Canada (USD refunds only).

I am still quite annoyed with this

Well, that's inconsistent with Malatekid's earlier post which indicated that the Australian site did not include any upgrade pricing.

Also, the Australian website (now at least) does not contain any info about a mail in rebate, only the free HD/Blu-ray plug ins.

Well that is interesting ... just checked it now when you click purchase download NO REBATE download is there, but it was when I bought it a few days ago.

Clearly some kinks still need to be worked out. ;)

I want to throw in my 2 cents. Roxio's upgrade pricing has always been a slap in the face. And yet, I upgrade. For example, NewEgg has 2009 for 84.99 (free shipping), making my upgrade savings a total of $5 (US) if I purchase from Roxio and go through the pain of a mail-in rebate. Thanks Roxio. :angry2:

Also, Costco (US) has the "Special Edition" for $79 (US) with free shipping until 9/19. I'm not sure what version it is (regular or Ultimate), but it includes the video capture hardware.

Agreed, Tom.

Going through the website link I am charged $NZ199 for the ESD, and nearly $26 for a backup DVD. However just today I got an email offering this . . .

It would seem that ordering early or through the website would cost a customer here $50 extra. [shakes head]

Still, I can't complain. At least the emails are starting to come at last.

Hi

Australia? Check out this website page.Unfortunately, I don't see any upgrade pricing. :(

Yes, I have already seen that page :)

That's why I will order online from the US site. AU$169 compared to US$79! Buying at the full US$99 is cheaper than the AUstralian price. This kind of pricing variation happens all the time.

kind regards

Could be worse - when Vista came out Bill Gates was interviewed by the BBC who very pointedly asked him just WHERE he got the idea that $1 US was one pound sterling

At that time the rate was something like $2 to the pound - but Vista was priced at $1 = one pound

btw his excuse was that 'you had to allow for exchange rate variations and shipping costs'

You should, however, put some value on the 30 day return policy you get w/ Roxio. That is not typical for retailers selling software, at least in my (somewhat) limited experience.
