Error When Copying Says Finger Prints Or Dust.

Help I am so frustrated

Question

I have been putting my old VHS Family movies on DVD and have encountered a problem with copying one of the DVD's. It keeps telling me that I have finger prints or dust and to try again only I cleaned it and still problem occurs. I have been succesful with my first DVD and copy so I can't understand the problem. I have tried all of the customer service such as enableing the DMA and updating my drivers. Still it gets to the last few minutes of the copying and quites. It's driving me crazy. I get obsessed when something does not work right. I tried putting the DVD on my son's computer with a different program and it quit at the same time with the same message. These were brand new DVD's. I am beginning to think I am going to have to start all over and make a new DVD from scratch off the VHS and try again, maybe it is just a bad DVD from the store or something. They are Staples brand DVD +RW

I would try copying the Video_TS folder and its contents off your DVD, to a folder on your hard drive, with just the copy functions of Windows Explorer.

If you can get there, it will be no trouble to burn the folder back to disc. But it does sound as if the DVD you burned has an error out toward the outer edge, and if you can't get past that you may have to start again from scratch. [excuse the pun]

May I suggest ImgBurn Current (NEW) version: 2.4.2.0 download, # 7 in my signature.

After it's installed ( small footprint ) check the log under view, under mode check read. Click the read arrow, let the software rip the non protected DVD Disc to the hard drive. Any problems the log will have it documented, probably like Brendon has outlined 'a read error out toward the outer edge' ....

Rw is not the best type of disc for permanent storage anyway, and I haven't heard much about staples brand. Maybe a bad batch. Try Verbatim +R and see what happens.

Your problem is most likely with the low quality Staples DVDs. Get some good quality DVDs such as Verbatims and also stay away from RW discs unless you are only doing test burns.

Its obvious from your post that the DVD your burned is bad. You will propably have to redo your project; hopefully you still have youroject and source files available on your hard drive.
