Brendon is correct with this. I use Norton on 2 PC but only Norton Anti Virus and the majority of that is turned off!

I have 4 PC, 3 of which have never ever had a reg cleaner run on them! The oldest has been running 24/7 since 1999. You would think that if something evil was lurking in the Registry, I would have noticed it my now…

Point is you don't need reg cleaners and you a bare bones AV will do nicely.

the fix listed in the easy cd and dvd burning (the red box) "vista compatable" topic. Trial version expired thread.

and I believe you are correct in ccSvcHst.exe. Haven't shut down again yet.

Mr H,

The downloaded Repairer 9 is only written to fix the "trial version" problem. Did it fix that problem? If so, it did its job repairing the damage caused by Nortons registry cleaning software.

I Don't have any "ccservhost*.*" file on my RedBox system in XP-SP2. You're not talking about CCsvchst.exe, are you??

CCsvchst.exe is a part of the abominable Norton Symantec Service Framework from their Internet Security Suite.

If you're running that execrable software, it's probably preventing the RedBox software from exiting gracefully when you close the program. If that is so, Nortons will be holding the Roxio program in memory and preventing you from running a second instance of it.

If this is the case you'll need to disable or remove Norton Internet Security suite when you're intending to burn, OR restart Windows after closing the redbox software OR use the Windows Task Manager to identify and unload the Roxio process that Nortons has hijacked OR leave the redbox software running until you've finished burning discs.

Regards,

Brendon

Thanks for the ideas.

Obviously you have a dislike for Norton's software. That aside, it does appear to be a conflict. Closing it in the task manager does work and may have to be the way I go about using it in the future if I need to reopen it before restarting the computer. I simply found that I had needed to make an additional edit to the disk I made when I found it would not open again.

I don't think uninstalling or disabling one piece of software to run another piece of software is sensable. Interesting though, as this is the first software that I have run into a problem with that would require this and does not have a fix for one of the largest antivirus companies. I will check with microsoft and Symantic for fixes also.

Thanks again

Hello Mr H,

Peter Norton is a brilliant programmer, but Symantec bought his name and then proceeded to put out huge and complicated software under the Norton name. I don't like the problems people have had with recent Norton software, that's all.

The original problem was caused by Roxio using a vulnerable registry key which can easily be broken by registry cleaners. The Repairer reinstates and strengthens that key, and that's all it does.

The second problem isn't caused by the Repairer. I would submit that it's caused by CCsvchst.exe. Do an Internet search on problems caused by that, and you may see why I look sideways at it.
