Creator 2009 Ultimate Rolls Back Mid Way Thoough Installation

Question

Whilst waiting for my software to arrive from Califonia I kept up to date with the forum. I noted that the Gurus recommended on many occassions with installation problems a clean install. So I prepared my PC by following the article 000207CR for Vista. I removed my previous creator 10 using both Vista uninstall and Installer Clean Up utility which did find more Roxio programs. I used MSconfig to disable startup applications. I deleted all Roxio and Sonic files and folders from my C drive and sub folders as directed in the instructions. I removed all Roxio and Sonic entires in the regitry. I finally ensured my graphics card software and Vista updates were up to date.

Alas despite the above the software failed to install. The installation progressed well initially with .net v3.5 installing OK, then smartsound OK, then Roxio Creator 2009 Ultimate OK, then Cine Player Decoder Pack OK but once Cineplayer started to install the Status changed to "rolling back Cine player Decoder Pack", then "rolling back Roxio Creator 2009 Ultimate". Set up was unwinding the install.

I tried the whole thing three times which took hours with the same result.

I then submitted a tehnical support ticket. The technician advised me to use MSconfig to stop applications running on start up. I advised him I had done this and had done the full clean of the PC ahead of the PC. I tried a 4th time, same result. I have not had any further feedback from Roxio since last night.

I've tried the whole thing again tonight after getting back from work. Full PC clean. Same result.

Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

A few people have had similar results!

And several thousand have not…

While it may seem harsh, I would format the HD and install the OS from disc. (I format my new PC's on arrival and eliminate any rollback partition.)

Might be a good excuse to get that 1TB drive you have been lusting over

If that goes well, there are utilities that will migrate your programs and data over.

You can spend weeks of frustrating try this, try that, rename this, do that again… ;)

Jim thanks. You are probably right but right now it does seem harsh and a bridge too far. I think I need to sleep on your advice (9.25pm here). It would be good to get a response from technical support though but they seem to have gone to ground rather disappointingly.

Not that this will help you, but when I was installing my Creator 2009, I was hoping that I would have problems and would have to do a Format C:. It's been over 2 years since I have done it, so I am only 1-1/2 years overdue. :)

It takes me about 4 days to get everything loaded and tweaked the way I want it. Even then, I find something that I forgot to install.
