Sounds like the Packet-Writing disc is beginning to fail.

I hope you are aware that Packet-Writing (Sonic's DLA, Roxio's Drag2Disc, Nero's InCD, etc.) is NOT a reliable way to archive information. Packet-Writing can fail for any reason, or none at all, usually at the worst possible time. If you use RW media with Packet-Writing, it will fail faster.

If you are archiving your data, use a Sessions-based program such as the built-in WinXP burning ability, or Data Disc in Record Now, and R media. DO NOT FORMAT the disc.

If you have been using DLA for archiving, I'd suggest re-burning the data to R media with a Sessions-based program as soon as possible - if it is still possible to read the discs.

Ok, I'll just use a different product. Thanks for your advice.

ALL Packet-Writing programs - Sonic's DLA, Roxio's Drag2Disc, Nero's InCD, etc - work the same way, except that they are incompatible with each other. ALL of them are ok for temporary storage of data but at great risk of losing the data.

So, go ahead, pick a different program, and lose the data (if you haven't already). It can be very exciting. Been there, done that.

Have you tried using either the built-in WinXP burning or whatever other Sessions program (such as RecordNow Data Disc) to burn a CD?

If it works on RW media, re-burn to R media if the idea is to KEEP the data.

if the idea is to transfer data, I'd suggest a Flash drive (aka Keychain / Jump / Pen / Thumb drive). They are much more reliable than Packet-Writing.

If you object that you want to re-use the disc and that is why you are using RW media and Packet-Writing - would it cost more than 20 cents (the price of a CD-R by the spindle) to replace the data?
