Cineplayer Hangs

rickc

Question

After the two installs using the instructions plosted on the boards i still cant play a DVD. However, i did open and play some local .wmv files that ran OK. I did get prompted to run fddshow which i allowed. After that i popped in a DVD. Interestingly enough, it opend a SEPERATE window with "ActiveMovieWindow" in the header and played BEHIND the blank, black screen Roxio Cineplayer window. Unfortunatley, any attempt to click on the windows causes them to go into a "Not Responding" status immediately so i cant navigatate the menus.

I do have a task in with support but thought I'd share this with others on the boards who may be having similar problems.

I have the same problem 'Activemovie' window appears over the top of Cineplayer. Shows scrambled DVD menu. Plays sound but will not respond to mouse clicks. Same system used as successful Cineplayer used under EMC10.

Installed latest Directx and Windows Media Player. Uninstalled Creator2009 and after reboot could not see DVD drives. Found a fix on forums.driverguide.com i.e remove upper and lower filters in registry Start, Run, Regedt32, HKEY_LOCAL-MACHINE, SYSTEM, CurrentControlSet, Class, key 4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318, right click "UpperFilters" and "LowerFilters" in right panel choose 'delete'. Apparently this is a known problem with DVD writer software. Whilst I was at it I searched for all references to 'Sonic' and Roxio' and deleted these entries. BACKUP YOUR REGISTRY before you start.

...and still Cineplayer doesn't work. I am waiting on reply from support.

Cheers, Alan

Not surprised that it didn't help. Upper/Lower Filters have absolutely nothing to do with Cineplayer. – like cleaning your microwave in the hope it will fix your hot water heater.

Likewise there are some entries in your Registry that are put there by the OS and you could end up crippling your PC when you start running amok in Registry! (ask me how I know that )

I think you are the only 2 that have posted this and that is why no one has responded…

I would suggest updating your Video card drivers and to make sure we have a base line, print out and carefully run through the complete Clean Install procedure again. Leave nothing out and put nothing in.

I would also remove any other Players you might have loaded with the only exception of Windows Media Player, before doing the Clean Install.

Link to the clean install is at the top of this forum.
