Covert From 4:3 To 16:9

MV Dad

Question

I make these home videos with VideoWave 10 and send it to a number of different family members some have HD 16:9 and others have 4:3. Is there a way to convert 4:3 to 16:9 or do you have to start over? I am not actually wanting to do HD just 16:9 at this point.

Thanks

1) Download a little free utility called IfoEdit from http://www.videohelp.com/tools/IfoEdit and unzip the download to a known location on your HDD.

2) Create a new folder on your HDD and Drag & Drop all the files from the DVD to it.

3) Open IfoEdit - it doesn't need any installation.

4) In IfoEdit, open each file with the extension .IFO from the files you copied from the DVD - they're in the VIDEO_TS folder.

5) In each file, there will be one or more lines containing text like: .... MPEG-2 720x576 (PAL) (PAL 625/50) (4x3) ....

6) Double-click each of these lines in turn and a window will pop up for each, with 4x3 selected. Select the 16x9 button and click OK. When you have done all the lines, click Save, then OK. You will be asked if you also want to update the .BUP file - do so. (You will not immediately see the change you have made, but, if you open the file again, you will see that the 4x3 has been changed to 16x9).

7) When you have done all the .IFOs, burn a new DVD using Video Copy and Convert - select the Video Compilation tab and browse for the new folder you created in step 2.

The new DVD will play full-screen on a 16x9 TV. The picture will, of course, be stretched laterally, but, if your friends have widescreen TVs they will be used to this effect!

Good luck!

That is a lot of work to produce a poor result!

Suite yourself…

Those numbers are ratios! It can't be done there is nothing on the sides to make into the space left over...

You have a hole that is 16:9. If you multiply your 4:3 cork by a factor of 3, it becomes 12:9

But the hole you are trying to plug in 16:9, so you are going to get wet with all that opening in the "4's" you can't plug.
