Cineplayer Crashes When I Move The Cursor With Mouse

SSoto

Question

CinePlayer crashes when I move the cursor inside the viewing area of the movie. I get the message "CinePlayer stopped working" and it closes.

I can move the cursor around the CinePlayer wimdow withouth problems, as soon as I go into the viewing area it crashes. I already did a clean install of Creator 2009 following the posted instructions.

I'm running Vista Home Premium 32bit.

Thanks, Saul

I have a Microsoft Wireless Intellimouse Explorer 2.0 connected by USB. It has been with me for about two years.

Interesting, so do I...

[Later] I've just tried CinePlayer with a non-Microsoft mouse, and it works fine! I wouldn't think the hardware is the problem, but I wonder if this could be the Intellimouse software.

Indeed, but the world of Vista has largely made this automatic. I did double check just in case though ...

In addition to these two posts, there is another thread where there appears to be a conflict with Creator 2009 and the microsoft wireless mouse. The link to that thread is here. In post number 22, the poster disabled "ipoint" and this appeared to solve the conflict with Creator 2009 and at the same time allow the microsoft wireless mouse to continue to work.

Edit: corrected link

No, the problem is that Roxio have not tested their software with the ipoint mouse drivers.

Have you any idea just how many different peripheral devices are available? It's impossible for any company to test software on everything.

Ask MS just why their particular hardware is incompatible

After reading this thread I just had to comment. As someone who has experienced the many ups and downs of "Creator" (going all the way back to Creator 3), I've several times gone on record expressing my delight and amazement that **all** components of Creator 2009 appear to be fully functional on my Vista 64 bit system. But several weeks ago I wanted to view an AVCHD disc and finally got around to launching the one module I hadn't yet tested, CinePlayer. To my disappointment, the component crashed each and every time I tried to run it. After spending several hours attempting (without success) to troubleshoot the issue I threw in the towel. To make a long story short, after reading this thread I immediately flipped over my wireless mouse to check the model number and sure enough, "Intellimoue Wireless Explorer 2.0" running on Vista native drivers. As luck would have it, I happen to own an extra MS "Wireless Notebook Optical Mouse 4000". I plugged it in and voila... CinePlayer works!. I also discovered that the "4000" runs perfectly without removing the "2.0" mouse, so I simply plug it in when needed and remove it when finished. I hope Roxio and/or Microsoft will address this issue in the not-too-distant future but in the meantime I have a good workaround without spending any cash on a new mouse. Cheers to "Saul" for observing and posting the correlation between mouse movement and this issue!

Usually a new mouse driver will run older mice…

Can you get the new one and try?

I should have mentioned it earlier but yes, I tried switching from Vista's native driver to the latest InteliPoint version 6.3 and ran the mouse as "Wireless Explorer 2.0" and an "Optical Mouse 5000". In both cases the mouse works properly however CinePlayer still crashes. Seems like the issue may be hardware based.

I am also experiencing the same issue with a MS Wireless Optical Mouse 2.0

The mouse and the OS are MS products - perhaps a bit of commenting on THEIR site will lead them to fixing a problem with their software and hardware

Personally I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for Redmond to actually DO anything - they're too busy plugging leaks in Vista and driving everyone on XP nuts with their 'authenticity checks' ;)

Clearly, the problem is with the Microsoft Wireless Intellipoint Explorer 2.0 Any other mouse seems to work fine.

Tried all the tips from the discussion group (clean install, disable ipoint.exe, update mouse driver, etc. etc.) and none of them worked. Also tried to get help from Microsoft and from Roxio. Roxio took over a week before they favored me with the courtesy of an an acknowledgement of my email and no useful response yet. Microsoft replied quickly but with no useful information.

The only thing that works is to get rid of the Microsoft Wireless Intellimouse Explorer 2.0 completely. I went out and bought a new mouse (cost me $50), installed it and everything now works well. And you ask, why should I expect a Microsoft mouse to work with Microsoft Vista? My only criterion for the new mouse was that it should be anything but a microsoft product.

Still trying to decide who to send a $50 invoice to: Roxio or Microsoft.

I gave Microsoft a shout via email and received a reply thanking me profusely for providing details of the issue along with something to the effect that my feedback will help to make the world a better place ;-)

In any case, the mouse in question is a discontinued product so the "let's not hold our breath" theory is probably the best advice. As far as I know, the conflict is limited to the "Intellimoue Wireless Explorer 2.0" which has apparently been replaced by the "Wireless Optical Mouse 5000". AFAIK the current MS mouse products don't cause any problems with CinePlayer but if upgrading just be sure to save the receipt! Personally I'm working around the issue by launching and controlling CinePlayer with my graphics tablet which (along with my Explorer 2.0 mouse) is always connected to my PC.
