I am asking for some help to resolve a problem using Easy CD & DVD Creator 6. When I try to view the DVD drive, the Roxio program tries to re-install. I have already tried reinstalling several tmes. I am using Windows XP SP 3. Thanks for any help.

I am also suffering this issue with easy cd creator XP SP3

I my case I am unable to remove in add/remove programes. The uninstall looks promising until I get error 1316 a network error occured reading c:\windows\installer\ecdc6.msi

As an added irritation if I drag and drop any file the easy cd creator 6 installation program launches.

I have followed every procedure I can to rid myself of this menace including the clean uninstall recommended by Roxio. The sadly missed roxizap looked like it might have helped but is no longer available.

To answer my own question, I found this on the forum:

May I suggest you go to the Microsoft site and read the page on the Windows Installer cleanup utility. The idea will be to use the utility to completely remove the ECDC6 installation configuration. After that is done you will have a clean system to install the program suite you

This worked for me and now I will be careful not to install any further malware by Roxio

If you followed all of the steps in the KB article it is removed just as cleanly as it was in Roxizap…

The only difference is you do this way vs a program doing them.

I would prefer the 'program' way but V6 and Roxizap were written for Win9x/NT operating systems which haven't been made for years…

The MS Cleanup utility was written to clean up failed uninstalls of MS Office. If MS has to write a special utility to remove their own programs… Guess they write malware too.
