Sony Dvd Rw Aw-g170a Not Recognised As A Dvd Burning Device

Racing Snake

Recommended Posts

I have a similar problem to several other previous posters. A Dell Optiplex 620 with a Sony DVD RW AW-G170A drive installed will only work when running CD-based projects - it will not register as a DVD drive. The PC is running Win2k SP4

Would this fall into the same category as the users helped by Brendon's registry fixes under the following thread:... http://forums.support.roxio.com/index.php?showtopic=34921

This topic is finished.

If anyone else has new drives they want to run with old software they should start a fresh topic rather than exhuming this one and adding to it.

Regards,

Brendon

I can get more information from this system if it would help with the registry fix :)

Hello Racing Snake,

Thanks for starting your own topic. It allows individual attention.

This might not be the sort of problem which will be fixed by a recognition patch for the registry, but it's early days yet. Please tell me what Roxio software you're running. I'm guessing it will be version 5, but what is the full version number??

Run Creator, then go to the top toolbar, Help > About this software and tell me what version number is displayed.

You can't make Video-DVDs with version 5, but what complaints do you get from the software when you try to make a data DVD?

Does it happily do all types of CDs that you've tried?

What is the Drive ID of your burner? Open Windows Device Manager and click on the cross next to the DVD/CD icon there, then quote the ID exactly, please, including the use of lower case/upper case letters.

Regards,

Brendon
