Creater 2009

TwoJerrys

Question

Hi

I have been using EMC 10 for the last year. This was installed on a 3 year old Dell desktop and subsequently I had to overcome numerous technical issues in order to output a finished disc.

Any how, I have now upgraded to Roxio Creater 2009 and sucessfully installed this onto a new laptop. It appears to be working OK which is great.

I still remain a little confused about Smartsound and Media Selector. I have a large library of music in Itunes. When I loaded Creator 2009 it advised me up upload Itunes which I did and it transfered my library onto the hard drive from a portable hard drive I had backed it up on.

Should I be able to see my music library on Smartsound under the 'owned' section. Logic tells me I should but I can't and if not what does 'owned' mean?

When I used EMC 10, I used to have to burn the music I wanted onto CD and then upload them as music files to select them for my productions.

I am really looking for an easier and quicker solution to use the music I own for my productions.

Can anyone help please?

Not being an iTunes user, it's not possible for me to test this but I'm guessing that 'owned' might not mean tunes that you paid for but ones that aren't copy protected. Just a guess here though. I have music that is not copy protected and it shows up under 'owned'. These are all mp3 files and I also don't know if AAC files would show up. Hopefully, others with iTunes and DRM'd music will try this and post here.

I wouldn't think that 'SmartSound' has anything to do with iTunes. SmartSound is a 3rd party add-on that is NOT owned by Sonic/Roxio. You can go to the SamrtSound website and purchase additional music themes. I believe that is what it means in that dialog box. There would be a list of teh SmartSound music that came free and the ones that you purchased.

Two Jerrys - SmartSound actually creates music on the fly for your video or slidshow. For example if you have a 5 min and 6 sec slideshow, SmartSound will create music that fits exactly. It will have a beginning and an end so it sounds correct.

I think I was confused.....looking at Smartsound, I can see my mp3's when I choose the Media Selector tab which isn't necessary if I had chosen Media Selector from the outset. When I choose Smartsound then look at the 'owned' files, my personal mp3's ARE NOT listed. I did try to add my files to the Smartsound library but was not able to. I need to spend more time with this as I'm not a Smartsound user.

I have used SmartSound a few times to add audio to one of my Videowave productions and have used on several occasions the audio that is "free" but I have also tried to use an audio that when picked, you have to download it from their website as Gary has suggested. The great part I liked about SmartSound was it's ability to fit the entire production without me having to play around with my personal music files to accomplish the same thing. BTW, I have not purchased any of the audio from SmartSound, so all I still see is the free files when I choose SmartSound.

Thanks for your reply. I had a look at the Smartsound website yesterday and have a better understanding now of what it is and how it works. Ideally I would like to use my MP3 library for my productions, however as stated previously thought it would be a little easier to locate the files I want. I have created playlists in Itunes of songs that work really well with memory DVDs however each time I want to use them I am faced with searching through thousands of songs - except if I copy them to CD and them put them in a file which I can locate easily. Still ultimatley I am loving working with the software and have brought a lot of pleasure to friends and family with the productions I am outputing.
