Burning And Tv Viewing Solutions

Barbara V

Question

I have been working with Creator 2009 for more than 24 hours trying to get a slideshow to work. I have been getting burning errors but when I did get it to burn, the DVDs would not work when I went to view them on the TV. I have a thick head of hair and now I'm practically bald trying to find the solution. After much google searching and searching the Roxio help boards, I think I found a workaround. Hopefully, I can help someone keep his or her hair. :) I do apologize in advance if someone has already posted this but my knowledge also came from trial and error.

Open Video Wave and make your slideshow. When finished, go to Output, Export as "Archos MPEG4 (AVI), best quality. Then click on, Create Video File. DO NOT, burn the DVD in Video Wave. DO NOT go to output and click on "Send to MyDVD." Instead close the program and Open MYDVD from the start program. Click on "DVD + VR Project. Open the slideshow you created, create your menu, etc. For quality, I used HQ. Then Burn. This gave me a good quality DVD with no burning errors. Thing is, this was just a practice run and I have quite a few more slides to add. I'm hoping I do not run into the missing files like others have. I encounter this problem with version 5.

I am very disappointed in Creator 2009. Frankly I was very happy with version 7. I was forced to buy the new version as it would not work with Explorer 7 and it was too much of a problem to remove it from my computer. The slideshow is for a wedding. I have made a few in the past and I hope I do not disappoint this bride but at this point I'm very leery.

Thanks for listening.

Other than the tirade portion, this is the normal workflow that started in V7.

To save you some work, the Output As portion is unnecessary. Just Save in VW and then close VW and open MyDVD.

When you Add in MyDVD, select the VW dmsm file and you are on your way.

And of course you should be able to burn from MyDVD using the MyDVD Express. It works for the majority of us.

You cannot burn a DVD from Videowave.

Why are you outputting to "Archos MPEG4 (AVI)"? If you want to output to a file to eventually use for a DVD, why not go directly to a DVD compliant format such as MPEG2 for DVD, best quality. At the moment you are rendering twice and each time you lose quality.

Also why "DVD+VR"?

Hi Jim thanks for answering so quickly. Though I may have had a problem or two in V7 for the most part I loved it and it worked well for me.

To save you some work, the Output As portion is unnecessary. Just Save in VW and then close VW and open MyDVD.

Honestly, I was working with the program from 7:00 am until 2:00am and also a few hours this morning, trying to find a work-around from the error messages and being able to view a DVD on the TV. My solution is what I came up with and as I said it worked well for me. :)

When you Add in MyDVD, select the VW dmsm file and you are on your way.

I tried to use MyDVD Express only to get an error message while burning. I'm glad it works for the majority of you, unfortunately I am not that blessed.

Thanks so much! I'm sure I will find the links helpful. :)

Yes, my mistake as you can't burn from VW but I click on the burn icon which takes me to MyDVD Express I get an error message while burning.

As I told Jim, I was up to the wee hours in the morning trying to find something that worked with no error messages. I found something that works for me. Using DVD+VR gave me a super quality slideshow that I am very happy with. I was able to burn and view one using the default setting and the quality was not that good. I am not that technical but isn't MPEG4 better quality than MPEG2? I showed my husband the difference in the quality and he thought the one I made in MPEG4 was great. Not sure if it means anything but my slideshows are not just photos. I make them scrapbook style with graphics and text and it was all very clear. Thanks for the input? :)

When you create a standard video DVD using myDVD, all video is converted to mpeg2 because that is the standard format to be playable on most DVD players.

I never use myDVd Express (always myDVD) but what error message to you get?

Well I'm not sure what is going on but as I said default gave me a poor quality DVD but taking the steps I mentioned gave me excellent quality. Here is the message I was constantly getting until I found a workaround.

Some other things to work on.

Get some DVD RW media to play with. (Never seem to hear any complaints about Verbatim)

Don't use VR projects. The disc is left open and it may not enjoy widespread compatibility in Players.

Thanks for the Tip Jim. I been using HP DVD+r 8x RW. I will take your advice and buy the Verbatim. After reading most of the other posts with burning issues, I do not think the DVDs are the problem.

I use some HP RW's too, but Verbatim is one of the very few companies that actually make their product. The rest, HP included, pay others to make them…

No I don't suggest that the media was the problem in your case. Just suggesting something you will find useful.

Sorry Jim, I didn't mean to imply that you thought the media was the problem. I so appreciate the help and I will be purchasing the Verbatim DVD. :)
