Can't Burn A Music Cd...

rynegold

Question

I started over on this forum..... did'nt know about the "red box" forum :)

http://forums.support.roxio.com/index.php?...mp;#entry230802

I select some music, pick a destination drive, hit the red continue button, nothing happens except the cd drive lite comes on breifly, and the little windows hourglass appears for a while then gos away.

Still no burn/progress meter.

Oh, over in the bottom left hand corner, it will flash a message "in use by drive letter access"

and... if you insert a new disk, you get the estimated time of course and somehow, I got a message that some other program was using the drive/roxio program??? what the heck is that??

Anyone had this happen? know a solution? I've had this program for a year now and it "was" working fine.... now all of a sudden, this.

I have drag to disc running in the tool tray and I have an old copy of roxio's cd creator 5 on this machine but not running in the tool tray.

There's you answer.

Drage to Disc is grabbing the drive.

Exit Drag to Disc.

Take a BLANK blank, directly out of the package or off the spindle. DO NOT FORMAT. Try again - it should work.

Thanks Lynn! so drag to disk is the culprit?

Why in hell then did they included it on the disk! thats funny.....

So I need to be using one or the other but not both? It seems like I tried to use drag to disc on my laptop (which I put this program on as well) and it didn't work at least for music anyway, again; just no function or warning messages. However it (easy cd&dvd) works just fine on that machine even with d to d running in the tray. Hmmmm???

Well, I'll unistall d to d and see what happens.

Drag-to-Disc is not really the "culprit"- you are just using the wrong program to create an audio disc. Drag-to-Disc is only used for burning data files to a CD or DVD. It cannot be used for creating audio and.or video discs.

I have no idea what is included with the "Easy CD & DVD" package but I would think there is a "copy" program under a "music" or "audio" task

There are two reasons Drag2Disc is included. The first is that some people know it is a very short-term function, as for building web-pages or moving docs - things that are usually done with a Flash drive (aka Pen / Keychain / Thumb / Jump drive) today, or perhaps an External hard Drive. The second is that a lot of people think it makes a CD into a "great big floppy disc", which it kinda does, but eventually one learns (as I did) that it is NOT a reliable form of archiving data.

An Audio Disc is a specific format, different from a Data disc (altho an .mp3 disc is a form of Data discs). So you need to use which ever application it is that builds a layout for an Audio CD - assuming that is your end objective. (I'm assuming you are making selections from several sources as opposed to copying a CD.)

If you want to back-up your data, use Classic Creater to make a data disc - NOT Drag2Disc.

Ok. I'm not using d to d to try and make music cds... I tried it once, as I noted, on my laptop and found it wouldn't work and so abandoned it entirely. Now as for how I'm using creator, it has and icon/selection for "making a home audio cd" and that worked fine for quite a while even WITH d to d running as well... at least I "think" that's true.

In any event I'll unistall d to d and try using my flame program again and see if it works!

Thanks to all who responded.

regards, mitch
