Av Capturing With Roxio 2009

kebabread

Question

I purchased the creator 2009 along with the roxio capture device, I have been able to successfully capture videos from my Digital camcorder but I cannot capture with my old analog camcorder, every time I select the usb device my computer shuts down.

I have asked support for help who have advised my to do a clean install which I have done, also to upgrade my Nvidia G Force 6600 driver which I have done, or stop all my startup programs which I have done. None of these have help.

Any help would be appreciated as this feels like a waste of money.

Thanks !

Try uninstalling those drivers and then reinstalling. This time when it installs make sure that you use USB EMP AUDIO DEVICE for the sound. If you don't get a choice then once it installs go to Device Manager, right click USB AUDIO DEVICE and hit Update driver. When the box comes up point it to the drive that has the driver disc in it.Then choose USB EMP AUDIO DEVICE for the driver.

When I first installed the driver for the sound didn't install.I did this and used that driver and it works just fine.

I am running Vista Home Premium OS and the attachment shows what the USB capture device drivers should look like when you open up the Device manager, if installed correctly. (BTW, you have to have the USB device plugged into a USB port before these drivers are shown in the Device Manager).

If your older analog camcorder has L & R audio ports (red & white) and also has a video port (yellow) and have some audio video cables from there to your Roxio USB capture device ports, you should be able to capture video. Your Gforce 6600 video card is an older one, so I can't comment on it.

Any further help would be appreciate, as it seems support wont even answer my questions I have sent them.

OK think I have some progress have updated a few drivers, this appears to have stopped my pc closing everytime I select the USB capture device, now I dont have any picture showing through my camcorder ? I have the rca leads connected to the capture device red yellow and white cables which then connect to my camcorder. the end that plugs into my camcorder is like a headphones jack ? do I have the correct lead ? this is the one that came with my camcorder

Sounds like my old Sony camcorder. If you have the original lead, it looks like a stereo pin on one end. One section of the pin is for video and one section is for audio output from the camcorder. Try switching the leads around. Do not use both that jack and any other output. Typically yellow is video; red and white are for audio.

You should see the video if it is connected properly. If you cannot get video from either of the leads, then the connection to the camcorder is either not in all the way, that the camcorder connection is bad or the wire is bad. If the wire is bad, any stereo lead of that size can be used. If you use another wire, take the audio lead and use a "Y" connection to split it into two for each of the connections for the USB device.

If your description is accurate, it would appear to be the drivers in your Roxio USB device…

On the other hand, you are the only one who has had their PC turn off!!! That may indicate you have hardware problems.

Try connecting the device to another USB port, ones in the back of the PC are best.

It would be very helpful if you would put your system specs. Sounds like your Power Supply might be underpowering your hardware...specs would help...also include your PSU output

How is your video source connected? Via the yellow RCA cable or the S-video? If it is the yellow RCA cable, choose Composite Video in the drop down box for the input; otherwise choose S-video.
