No Data On Burnt Disk

scubaguy98

Question

So I finished the production, previewed to see if there were any issues which there were none. I then clicked the burn to disk icon and let the software go thru its motions. I have 4.7 G's of info to burn and I used an 8.5 GB disk. After the first burn to disk the application stopped right at 99%. I then took out the disk to see what was on it but it wouldnt play. Figuring there was no info on the disk I burnt on it again and left it for over night. This morning I saw it finished completely so I tried playing it in a few different dvd players. No Go! There is etching on the disk and when I look at the disks properties it says the disk is full but yet there is no data on it. What could be wrong? Im getting some smaller sized disks to see if that works but i doubt this is the problem. I need some help guys!!!

Did you burn directly to disc or did you first burn an image file?

Directly to disc I'm not sure on how to first burn an image file. Here is the error I get now during the writing phase (Failed to start the image writing operation Error while  Burning Image

80004003 Error while  Aborting)

Sorry I've not helped much. Before we try anything else, make sure you have the latest drivers for your video card and the latest DirectX. When this is done, when you go to burn your project, uncheck the 'burn to disc' box and choose the 'burn image file', select where you want it saved and let it burn the image. When complete, open up Disc Copier and choose the CD/DVD tab and browse to where it was saved and let it burn the file to disc. Hopefully, this will work for you.

Do you have a different recorder drive that you can test with? It almost sounds like anything you are trying burn using different media, fails. I suspect it might be a recorder issue itself.

Well after probably the 6th time I finally was able to burn in creator classic. I have no problem burning pics or audio so i dont know. This is why I'm so frustrated with this program, it seems so intermittent that I just cant put a finger on it. Who knows, maybe if I tried to burn from the creat dvd menu again it might have worked this time. I find this software easy to use as far as creating goes but when it comes down to burning the production for me I'm almost ready to call it quits with Roxio and not buy the product ever again.

Well let me share my experience which might give you more clarity about what we think is not what it is.. Couple of months ago I started experiencing freezes for few seconds in intervals on the Vista system. It was not specific if its related to any specific app or hardware etc since the system worked just fine at times. Recently, I attempted to install Vista SP1 on the same system and it errored out every install. I attempted almost every method to make it to install but failed. Researched several forums with several different process to no available. But the intermmittent freezing continued along the side of not being able to install SP1. Mind you I was able to install every other update on Vista just fine.

This was the time I initiated a contact with MS Vista support. To my surprise the service was outstanding though the CC is based in somewhere in India. The T1 was not able to resolve the issue despite best attempt. The issue escalated to T2 who had no choice but suggest me to do "inplace vista install" something like repair. Well we attempted inplace Vista install wich as expected messed up my other programs including Roxio apps. Nevermind I was prepared for this. Once done, I was recommended to then try SP1 install one more time. And to my surprise the installation progressed more than what it had done previously until it rebooted to do Stage 1 updates. Bam - BSOD and I could no longer boot. Well being computer savvy I used some "secret" tools to fix that and I was able to then proceed with rest of staging updates. Voila was able to install SP1 no issue with the fact that all other apps are messed.

It does not stop here. I was happy with all the efforts/attempts/assistance from MS and I closed the case since my original issue was to cure SP1 install. Couple of days later, Bam I see an error suggesting my HDD is critical in condition and I should back up my data. Obviously, I understood, the root cause here was my "Bad HDD" - replacing which has cured all my miseries :)

Cheers..

We do take these drives for granted don't we? I've had a so called 'smart drive' go bad and it must have been a smart you know what because it didn't alert me at all of an coming problem. There's a lesson here. ;)

Have you tried going to the Gateway Website Support to see if there are any 'updates' for that burner? Sometimes and update will fix the burning problems.

Also, my Gateway notebook came with a built in CD/DVD program ( a Nero OEM program) that interferred with the Roxio program.

My workaround was to use the EMC program and make an 'image file' on the hard drive and then use the built in CD/DVD program and the 'image file' (.iso) to burn the DVD.

It certainly could be the discs but there are some things you can try such as burning to an image file (ISO) then when you are happy with the completed project, you can burn that image file to disc using Disc Copier (with the full EMC9 version).

You can also try burning at a slower speed and make sure your burners firmware is up to date. Shut down any background programs such as virus scanners, etc.

Great! Gonna try shutting down the other running programs and using disks with much less data space. Now I've used the 8.5's before when I had about that much data to burn, Same batch of Disks too, and didnt have a problem then.

I dont know, I feel like just getting rid of this program and trying something basic. Everytime I have tried putting something on disk it's always something different. This time however it just isnt happening. I've used different disks, updated my vid card and active x, tried burning from the

my Dvd program and the creator classic menu. I created an ISO file, changed recording speeds and nothing works. I'm open to a few more suggestions if anyone has any to offer before I decide to never use Roxio again. Thanks

Well I tried new disks 4.7's slowed the copying speed to about 4 and now after all of that and waiting for the program to read and write to the disk I got a writting error message and it looks as if there is hardly any data on the disk. Anyone have some suggestions?
