Occasional Disappearing Background

Haverhooligan

Question

I've put together a slideshow for my parents' 50th anniversary using Videowave. I exported it as an .avi video file. It looks fine (for a first attempt) whether I play it in CinePlayer or Windows Media Player, except for one little thing:

In VideoWave's production settings for the slideshow I set the background to a gradient, so all the slides that have a background showing will have the gradient background. I've added text that fades in and then out again on a few slides. On these slides, the background is there until the text appears, then disappears until the text is gone. It looks fine when I preview in Videowave, but the problem becomes apparent after I export and then view the file in a media player. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

I am sorry but I don't quite follow what you are doing. Where in Videowave do you set the background? I cannot find any such option in VW's production editor. Could you describe in steps exactly what you are doing?

It's in the File / Production settings

Haverhooligan - are you saying you place text on a slide similiar to my example and the gradient background disappears?

Thanks Gary, learned something new! I have never even tried to change the background since I've always used the "full screen" and had no need for background.

I have just duplicated the problem that Haverhooligan described.

I added some text on the slide and had it fade in after a second or so and fade out again after a few seconds. While the text is showing the background goes to black. Certainly seems like a bad bug.

PS. The problem only seems to occur when using a gradient background, with solid background it works fine.

This snapshot is just before the text appears with the gradient background

This snapshot is with the text visible and the background has turned black. The gradient appears again after the text disappears

Yep. That's correct. I found the same thing to be true: that this only seems to be a problem when applying a gradient. Solid color bkgds are not affected.

With a Videowave production open, go to File>Production Settings>Background Fill.

Thought you might like to know I came up with a work-around: I created an image that's just a gradient and used it as the background fill in Production settings. Problem solved! Thanks for your help tho'. I appreciated your replies.
