Verification Failed!

cslewis90

Question

I'm running Toast 6.1.1 on Mac OS 10.4.5 and I'm trying to burn data to DVD.

Nearly all my burns have failed verification. I've tried various reputable media, re-installed Toast and the Mac OS Combo and even installed a new burner without success. I've also tried Toast 7 with the same outcome.

I can, however, successfully burn and verify on the Finder.

Anybody got any ideas?

In my case there were definite errors in the burn, which showed up in verification (and which I checked by attempting to copy the files back and finding that one file refused to copy(. So turning off verification would NOT have been a good idea.

I don't know if this is related, as I'm using Toast 7 (on MacOS X 10.2.x): I discovered today that I get a verification error when trying to burn an entire volume, but burning individual files/folders works just fine.

danco34,

I'm running a G5 dual 2 gig. My first burner was an internal Pioneer DVR 108AA (System Profiler called it a Pioneer 117D I think) and my current one is a Lacie 16X Lightscribe DL internal DVDRW (System Profiler calls it a TSSTcorpCD/DVDW SH-W162L)

Neither of these drives verify successfully with Toast but work perfectly with the Mac OS burner in Finder.

I've just updated to Toast 7 (deleting the old version with its prefs.and repairing permissions) thinking that might help; but nothing's changed.

It fails verification at random bytes/sectors, there's no pattern at all. (the error looks like this: "mismatch at byte X/sector XXXX verification failed")

I can, however, copy the contents of the failed DVD back to a hard drive without problems and it seems to be complete!

I run Pro Tools so I'm backing up audio files and other session data mainly, but I've also tried other types of data and that fails too. BTW, I've only been using single layer DVDs so far.

So....there it is. Can anyone shed some light on this?

TURN OFF THE VERIFICATION PROC. I have had a sony (that came with my imac G4) I have a pioneer dvr110d in it now, and a plextor 716a in a firewire case. All 3 of these drives always died during verification. so I have turned it off. That is in toast 6.1.1 and popcorn 1 and I won't even try it under popcorn 2.

Just turn it off.

My burns too have been subject to increased failures. At first it was fine. Then continuous degradation. First using Toast Titanium 5 with internal cd burner (Mac G4; Philips cd-rw; OSX.3). Just recently purchased a firewire Sony DRX-820UL-T hoping to solve this problem. No dice. Using Toast 6 Lite, which shipped with the burner, about 95% of my burns return a mismatch at byte 519/xxxxx. Comparing the copy with the original confirms the error(s). Also fails using Toast 5 Titanium. Any help, suggestions or solutions?

It could depend on what you are burning to disc. For example, if it from a system folder the Mac may have made a change in some file (such as a modification date) during the time the disc was burning so that it no longer matches. Or if you were doing something else such as opening or closing a folder that was being burned can change what is being compared.

If you are burning data files that you are certain could not have been modified in the background (such as files in your Documents folder and you had no other applications open than Toast) then the problem is more difficult to diagnose. I'm sure you've tried burning at a speed slower than Best.

What kind of files are you burning?

PLEASE HELP!

For two years I have been burning DVD's using Toast and a NEC2500 burner and its been working a treat. I creat my TS-folders and burn them as DVD data in toast. There has been the odd error, but now it is every time. It burns fine until the lead out. When writing lead out it takes ages, and then as it starts verifying it stops - Error Mismatch in Byte 0/sector xxxx ????? ANY SUGGESTIONS. Everything works fin when i burn individual files.

Very strange?

PS I have updated my firmware, I have tried to change RAM - but no result.

See my post, "Error with data DVDs". Not that I have any idea why there is a problem, but I seem to have the same issue. I found all my disks failed verification at the same point, or nearly the same point, sectors 130976 or 130992. I checked by copying the disk back to my hard drive, and sure enough one file on each disk refused to copy. I am using Toast 6.1.1 but OS 10.4.6. What Mac and what drive are you using? Can you recall at what sector there was an error? Was only one file per disk affected? The more info the better.

Sorry to take so long getting back (frustration/avoidance). I'm burning non system data, photoshop, quark etc. My burns seem to have several data mismatches, which are confirmed with corrupt files, and in Toast's compare. And yes I've tried at the slowest speeds possible, no other apps running. I've also upgraded to OSX 10.4, repaired permissions, and anything else resembling walking on eggs.
