Restart Spanned Disc Session?

brutus99

Question

I was creating a spanned disc set of 21 DVDs and the software or the burner froze up on disc 19. Is it possible to restart creating the spanned disc set from disc 19? It would be a tremendous waste of time and discs if I must start from the beginning.

Thanks.

Yes it is. :(

The suggestion in other parts of these forums is not to use disc spanning. You found one reason; a scratch on any one of the discs is another. Discs are so inexpensive now that trying to save a few discs is not worth the aggravation.

Consider an external hard drive for back up if that is what you are doing.

When Toast crashes I think you're out of luck. You can look at the content of the burned discs and delete the folders from the Toast window that already were completed in the previous session, so you'll have fewer discs to burn. But there is no automatic way to do it. You might use DiskCatalogMaker in the Toast folder to make it easier to see what was already burned.

Toast does let you quit burning a series and then continue but when Toast crashes it doesn't have any way to note where the burning stopped.

Other users have suggested that Toast let users make spanning disc images so they don't have to commit to burning any discs until they know the entire backup is saved as image files. Roxio said they'd look into that.

Has this issue been addressed yet? I need to either (1) be able to skip spanned disks that I've already burned or (2) create disc images on the HD to burn later. Either would work. No solution does NOT work as it's both a waste of time and discs.

Both solutions I'm proposing should work if Toast crashes.
