No Audio When Capturing Old Video

travelbecky

Question

I have imported old vcr tapes using the usb capture device. I have selected composite, have the video out connected to the video in, and the audio out connected to the red connection of adio in. I am getting the video fine, but cannot figure out why I am not getting audio. Any help?

It's been a bit since I installed it but check this.

Go to Device Manager and under Sound, video, game controllers you should see 2 entries.

1 should be USB Capture device-that would be for the video.

The other should be USB EMP Audio Device. This may be the wrong one if yours doesn't match.

If I remember when it installed there were 3 choices for this.

If yours doesn't match try uninstalling the 2 drivers and reinstalling the device.

There is a picture of the what the user should see here (in post #4) http://forums.support.roxio.com/index.php?...mp;#entry231668

I used the Roxio USB capture device, and the roxio creator 2009 software. I all came in a package together from Costco.

Okay, i looked at device manager. There was the USB Capture Device, then the USB 8561 Device (the same as the USB Capture Device) with a yellow triangle and exclamation mark. However, there was no audio USB. So, I uninstalled both the USB devices and reinstalled with my disk. The same confiugration showed up again in device manager. I don't know if this is relevent, but each time I plug in the USB device, my computer tries to install drivers.

I also tried the advice of using Movie Maker to capture the video, but could not find a place to choose the USB device. Thanks for all the suggestions, I appreciate the help.

Right click on the line with the Yellow Exclamation point. Choose update driver. Choose Install from a list or specific location. Click Next. In the next box, Search for best driver should already be selected and Search removable media checked. Insert the CDROM that came with the device and click NEXT.

Hopefully, you will see a list of drivers found on the CDROM. Select the USB EMP Audio Device and click OK.

Let us know if that works.

We're getting there. the audio driver showed up, but won't install. I get the message to contact the manufacturer. Is Roxio the manufacturer?

Yes, they need to send you the correct drivers for the USB device. The ones on your disc are the wrong drivers.

Do you think I can exchange the whole set up at Costco (Creator 2009, and the USB device) and the next CD will have the correct drivers? If not, do you know how I get Roxio to send the correct drivers?

The correct disc would look like this:

And would have this content:

Does yours look like that?

Have you tried another cable by chance? Also, make sure connections are firmly in place.

Do you only have 1 audio output from your VCR? Try plugging it into the white jack, on the audio in.

You can also pick up a "y" audio cable from Radio Shack or a similar store.

Everything is firmly in place, but I don't have another cable.

Perhaps you can test that cable by connecting the ends of the cable to the output jacks of your vcr, and inputting the other end into, say, a tv or some other device to see how the audio is?

As GPB said, maybe just buy an audio only cable.

Audio cable is easy enough to check, plug the one end in your VCR Output and theother in your PC Line Input. Got sound?

You gave no info on HOW you captured. You said you used a "usb capture device"…

What capture device?

What capture software?

I used the Roxio USB capture device, and the roxio creator 2009 software. I all came in a package together from Costco.

When you have your VCR turned on, connect to the Roxio capture device, unplug the USB cable, wait, and re-plug the USB cable to your PC.

A box of choices will appear, take Capture with Windows Movie Maker.

Capture a short segment and see if it has sound?

BTW, did you look through the Tips & Tricks section here about this device? Not directly related to your problem, but may be useful later.
