No Audio For Mov Files

jspencer2

Question

I bought Creator 2009 since it was one of the few non-apple products that works with mov files. However, I have had no luck with them at all. I've had several issues, but let me just post a simple one to start.

.mov file works fine in QuickTime. When I use the "Play Movies" feature in Roxio, and open the file it is jerky (e.g. likely skipping frames) and has no sound or at best on some files have some noise come through, but can't tell if it is random or pieces of the audio track. My real issue is I can't convert the files properly (no sound) and then edit them, but I thought the above was simpler to discuss and likely whatever the issue is on playing the files is why I can't convert them with sound either.

For the record, I have downloaded the software on both my laptop and desktop and have the same issue. I'm pretty sure both exceed minimum specifications for the software. I can't say the software is the easiest to work with, but other file types seem to work as advertised.

Thanks in advance,

When you use the 'play movies' feature, it run Roxio Cineplayer 5 which is just a viewer like Windows Media Player or the QuickTime player. When you say "can't convert", which application were you using? Like Syrallas, I have no problems with MOV files in Videowave.

Also what is the source of the files? There are some still image cameras that use the MOV file format, but use different codecs. We have seen problems with some of those files.

It's been almost a year since I posted the original complaint and nothing has changed with Roxio. I even purchased Roxio 2010 and it still does not provide audio for mov files. These video files are not created with a "still image" camera. They are taken with an HD digital video camera. The only software that seems to work with the files are Quicktime, (purchased full version), and Arcsoft Total Media Extreme.

I purchased Creator 2010 from Costco simply because I had a $25.00 discount offer. Wish I had spent my money on new Arcsoft software instead.

Any updates on this? I'm using Roxio Creator 2009 trying to help a colleague convert her MOV files (captured with a Kodak DV camera) to a more suitable format for inclusion in a PPT presentation (such as WMV). Drag-and-drop convert and VideoWave both convert the video but fail to pick up any audio. What's happening?

Have you tried editing these .mov clips in Videowave? I do this fairly often w/o any issues.

I have experienced the same problem.

I'm running Roxio Creator 10 Suite on a Vista OS with One GB RAM and 4 GB boost RAM with SATA HD and a 3.2 GHz dual core CPU. When I download the h.264 video in the .mov format from my DXG 595V in 60 FPS the video output from Creator is choppy and no audio. This happens in whatever conversion I use and whichever application such as Videowave, MyDVD, Convert Video, etc.

The same video will convert and burn smoothly on the same computer using Arcsoft's Total Media Extreme so I doubt that the problem is the computer.

I would keep the Arcsoft package but it doesn't allow you to merge video, only cut video frames. I'd like to keep using the Creator 10 but it's not worth it if it can't handle the h.264 format though it says both Roxio 10 and 2009 can work with the h.264.
