Not Recording Audio From Mic

slickbit13

Question

 I have been using Roxio for almost 2 years creating music with voice overlay cds for my client base (I am a Hypnotherapist) and have been thrilled with the resluts. However something went out of wak and now when i try to make a mix the sound editor isn't recording my voice, and if it does pick some sounds up they are garbled and very low in volume. also it only plays back on one channel. My op sys is xp professional. I called hp and they checked a number of things and can't figure it out. they keep blaming it on the program. so i bought the newest version and downloaded it yesterday and i have the same problems. called hp and they (IN India) tell me to do a recovery, which will put me out of work for 2-3 days trying to get it all downloaded again. can any one help????
Sincerely,
crying my eyes out

Per-LEASE - stick to black

Have you tested the mic input on anytghing else? For instance, Windows Sound Recorder?

Also, have you checked the levels on recording, made sure the mic is selected (and not Line-In) - little things like that

What did you do that you think "something went out of wak"? Did you install any other program? Have you checked what your sound device is set to under Record to make sure it's set to a mic?

If that input is low volume, garbled, and only picking up on one channel, I wonder if the plug hasn't been knocked out or not put back in properly. Is it in the Mic socket and not the Line In one?

Perhaps you should pop round the corner and visit Slickbit to see, Paul ?

:blink:Yes I checked that the device was set to mic. I've been using the program for almost a year and a half. I have made hundreds of CD's for clients and never had trouble. I did download a couple of other programs, but as far as I know Sound Editor was OK with tham after they were downloaded. Maybe one of the later programs over road the sound editor and changed a setting ... i just cannot find where or what it could have been. I can transfer audio music and both left and right channels & VOLUME work perfect but when I try to record my voice I either end up with a flatline or static and very low volume that cannot be corrected with the software buttons and it only plays back the voice track on one channel. I've been pounding away at this issue for at least 30 hrs collectively....and b4 you ask...yeas i have tried another head set and mic and the same results occur...also...the computer is plugged in and defrag has been run...also...recovery is just not in the equation... i know there has to be a simple explanation for this. HELP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1ST, turn of the bloody awful purple.

To prove that your mic setup is working go into Control Panel>Sounds and Audio Devices>open the Voice tab

>then open the Test hardware and see if you pass the test for your mic,

:rolleyes:My head Set/Mic is plugged into my computer...there is no battery. and I have tested the Mic and speakers thru the control panel and they are working perfectly. As I posted..." the audio files containing music are playing back perfectly normally!" It's any sounds I try and use my Mic for (VOICE) that I am having the problem.

Replace the batteries on your mic.

My Headset/Mic are plugged into my computer - there is no battery that I know of. I have tried two different mic's and have the same result...so it isn't an external hardware issue. I has to be a button somewhere inside the program that need adjusting. I just cannot find it.
