Tokeys
I appear to have a similar problem to several other previous posters. I have a Dell Optiplex GX620 running CD Creator 5 basic version 5.3.5.10 with a Matshita DVDRAM drive connected via USB (ID: "MATSHITA DVD-RAM UJ-85JS FWR7" as shown in CD/DVD Speed). My problem is that whilst I can create CDs OK on the Matshita, when I try to create a data DVD, the Matshita does not appear on the list of available drives. I am hoping that Brendon may have the answer for me. Many thanks in advance.
Brendon
Hi Tokeys, You haven't said what operating system you're running, or how you create CDs on the UJ-85JS. Is it with Easy CD Creator or is it with XP's built-in CD writing system? The first Matshita DVD-RAM was recognized by version 5.02d, so we may be in luck. I'll go do some research on this, and see if I can't get you some basic DATA DVD functionality with that drive. Remember though, even at best you'll only be able to write data DVDs because ECDC5 didn't handle Video-DVDs. Regards, Brendon
Tokeys
Hi Brendon Thanks for the reply. The OS is Windows XP Pro SP2. I can create CDs on the Matshita using either CD Creator or XP's writing system (drag and drop). However, I can't create a data DVD using either method. I have loaded Nero 6 with latest updates on to the PC and can create data DVDs OK with that, so I know the drive is good. However, I really need to use CD Creator. Thanks again
Brendon
ECDC 5 must be recognizing the drive as a CD writer through its primitive Dynamic Drive Recognition system, else you shouldn't be able to even write a CD with it - only with the built-in XP system. Okay, try this. I've stolen some of the entry for the UJ-820S because I think your drive is actually a variant of the UJ-845. Anyway, this should give you a measure of data DVD writing ability. It won't give access to Direct CD [the packet-writing application] but that's a blessing. Make sure your ECDC 5.3.5.10 is updated with the 535V driveUp patch, then run REGEDIT. (1) Press Ctrl-F (find) and search the registry for device001. When you find it, it should be displaying an entry for a GENERIC FREECOM48H drive (2) double-click device001, and an edit box should open with the entry for the Freecom drive highlighted in blue (3) paste the following line in to replace the Freecom entry MATSHITA DVD-RAM UJ-85JS,MATSHITA,DVD-RAM UJ-85JS,DVD+-R/RW,cdrmmc.drv,178,,9 (4) Click OK to complete the edit, and then get out of the registry editor Please come back and let me know how it goes. Tokeys
Hi Brendon Thanks for that. No luck though I'm afraid. When I create a data DVD using CD Creator, the Matshita now shows in the list of available drives, but when when I write to it it just hangs and eventually logs an error. Contents of the error log as follows: E80041927: TrackWriter error - ASPI failure - [T7121] E80041934: TrackWriter error - Flush failed - [T7127] E80041927: TrackWriter error - ASPI failure - [T7121] E80004005: Unspecified error Any suggestions? Many thanks
Brendon
It looks as if we have the writer recognized now, but you're having trouble with your ASPI layer. Which ASPI are you using? The Adaptec ASPI or the Nero ASPI ?? This article is probably worth reading, and you might give consideration to using ForceAspi. Tokeys
Hi Brendon ASPICHK revealed that there was no ASPI layer installed. I have now installed the latest Adaptec ASPI (4.71.2) using ForceASPSI. However, I still have the same problem with the same error message. Unless you have any other ideas, I think I will get hold of a later version of CD Creator and try that. Many thanks for all your help. You are a star! Brendon
I think we must have stretched the creaky old version 5 further than it was prepared to go It looks like a later version would be better. Avoid version 6. Version 7.5 was really good - much better than 8. You need 9.1 or better for Vista. Version 9.x was the last version with the full-featured disc copier. Go well, Brendon
