Constant Silent Crashes

Typhoon87

Question

I am having an issue with both the Service Roxio Upnp Server 9 and Service LiveShare P2P Server 9. Both constantly Fail silently when staring. What prompted me to dig into this a little was the fact that my Vista machine bluescreens often when it has been hibernated for a while (its a laptop) so I went ahead and looked in the problem reports and solutions control panel icon. Every time the machine blue screens there is are two failures one from each of the above services Service Roxio Upnp Server 9 and Service LiveShare P2P Server 9. Even when not bluescreening the app crashes alot.

There was one software update that I have installed via Software Manager is Roxio Creator LE Critical Update October 08 that came down but I have no clue what it does as there seems to be no changelog and a google and windows live search showed no relevent results. The software that Software manager shows as installed is Roxio Media Manager, Roxio Creator Basic V9.

The mahine is a Compaq 8710p with latest bios, Nvidia Quatro NVS 320M, 4 Gig of Ram, Vista SP 2 beta build 113 (Please note that this issue was happening on SP 1 with all other Windows Updates applies, this is not an SP 2 beta issue, Trend Micro Officescan Corparte 8 sp1.

The Windows Error Reporting (WER) Bucket ID for the crash of Service Roxio Upnp Server 9 is 6523090. The WER bucket ID for crash of Service LiveShare P2P Server 9 is 13743082.

Basically says crash service has hung on start. On average each service crashes 2-4 times a day.

Stop LiveShare from starting using Windows msconfig. Live Share won't work anyway because the Live Share computers no longer operate. There are no updates to EMC 9 that are easily available. You can try to contact Tech Service but I don't think they will be able to help because of the age of EMC 9.

The real problem is that your OS is screwed up since you cannot update Windows. When was the last time you ran a good anti-malware and anti-virus sweep? My guess is that your computer is infected. Run at least 2 anti-malware programs. There are free ones available go here. What anti-virus do you have? When was it last updated? Have you done a deep scan? Do you know to turn it off? If so, download this anti-virus (free trial), turn off your anti-virus and run this one. I'm not suggesting that you buy this; just use it for a trial and then remove if if it doesn't find anything. It is the one I use but there are others.

While you are at it, you may want to clean up your hard drive a by removing programs you don't use, removing junk files, and defragging. Tools are here.

If none of that works, then you may want to talk to someone about doing a Windows Repair.

I would also be hesitant to update to a newer version of Roxio Creator because you computer specs are marginal. What do you use EMC 9 to do other than watch DVD's

Go into Administrative Tools (or whatever it is called in Vista)/Services, and stop them from running, and set them to Manual or Disable, then reboot.

I have the exact same problem, tried the disableing but now it crashes, it seems , every 5 minutes. Any other ideas? Also this problem is recent. Your input is greatly appreciated.

Do you have the same software? What do you really have and did you update that version? There was an update from EMC 9 to EMC 9.1. That update did a few tweaks but EMC 9 should work on Vista. How did you update? The update is not longer available from the Roxio site since that is a legacy products three years/version ago.

The first thing I would do is to re-enable the two processes (temporarily) so you can at least work on the issue without it crashing every two minutes. Have you looked to see which processes are causing the crash?
