Unable To Watch Mydvd Project

Ranna

Question

I have made a project on MYDVD with EMC10 and when the project had burnt to disc, I was unable to watch it in various stand alone DVD players. I have tried to finalise the disk and it gives me a message to use an appendable disc. I have burnt my disc on a DVD-R. I have made my project with emc10 mydvd program, which I purchases from a retailer last week. The footage that I have used is from an old VHS that I copied onto a dvd. The dvd was then converted into .avi files and saved onto my hard drive. This is where I imported the video files from. If any one can help me with this issue it would be greatly appriecated as I would like to make a home video to send overseas to relatives for xmas.

Thanks in advance!

When you burn a disc, using MyDVD, it is automatically closed, meaning nothing can be added to it. So, there is no reason to try to do something that has already been done.

List the steps that you took to burn your production.

Also, what brand of media are you using?

Thanks for responding!

I opened Mydvd and started a new project. I added my video files from my document files which are in .avi format. I edited them I watched my project in preveiw and all was good so i went ahead (x2 now) and burnt my project to disc using the burn button. From there i was unable to watch it on stand alone dvd player or on my computer. The media that I am using is Magmedia dvd-r. When I had and used Nero vision to make my dvd's I used the same media and it could always be played on any dvd. Though I am willing to try other media if that will fix the problem!

Cheers! :)

I assume that you used a VHS/DVD combo to "copy" the video from your VHS to your DVD. Does the DVD you created have a Video_TS folder containing files with the extension of bup, ifo and vob? IF yes, then you have a DVD that you should be able to play on any DVD player. There is no need to convert the DVD video to avi files (how did you do that?) since you cann add the vob files directly into myDVD using the "Add" task. Just copy the complete Video_TS folder to your hard drive and then add from that hard drive folder.

Where you able to watch the DVD at all on your computer or on any stand-alone player? If yes, the there is nothing wrong with the DVD you created but there is some incompatibility between the DVD media you are using and the players. What make of media are you using?

I actually hooked up my vhs to my dvdrecordable player to put my vhs to disc. Yes the it does have a Video_TS folder with bup,ifo and vob. but due to the fact i wanted to edit my dvd to cut portions out (its a dance production of when I was a wee one and wanting to make a disc for my mum of dances I was in) From there i imported it to my computer and converted the files to .avi using a program called video convert master. The reason I converted the files is because the vob files didnt play in mydvd! Maybe I should try the vob files again! Yes it could be the media but previously i havent had an issue with the media (magmedia dvd-r) so I will try new media aswell. It also wouldnt play on the computer. The cineplayer starts and has the name of the disc at the top but doesnt play the disc! Thanks for responding!

If you are going to edit video you should be using Videowave not myDVD. Videowave is designed for editing your video. myDVD while it can be used to do editing is designed more for creating the menus and burning.

You should be able to add the vob file using Add when in Videowave. If not then the DVD recorder is using a non-compliant DVD video format.

For whatever reason I cannot use video wave it always says runtime error thus making it in mydvd. Since this is a new programme for me I have just gone with what works for me at the moment until i can figure out the best way to make home movies!

I would like to thank every one for their responses! Finally It has worked and I can play back on any dvd player! I cant beleive something as simple as the brand of media made me go potty!! Thanks all for the advice!!

Cheers Tania

If VideoWave isn't working for you, you need to follow ALL of the steps in the clean install, here:
