Videowave 7 Simply Does Not Start At All

tedcloak

Question

No matter how I try to start VideoWave, it does not come up at all. If I try from EMC7 Home, Home goes away for a second and then comes right back. If I try from Start, or from My Computer, nothing happens at all. I'm using W2K SP4. I've tried reinstalling. Tech Spt gave me some suggestions, but they seemed to apply only to XP.

Did the program/shortcuts work before?

A few suggestions...

(1) Make sure the shortcuts reference the correct ".exe" file. Right click the shortcut -> select properties -> select the shortcut and then -> "Find Target"

(2) Try logging as Administrator to your box, find the videowave executable and try launching from windows explorer (i.e. double click on .exe file). For me the executable is "C:\Program Files\Roxio\Easy Media Creator 7\VideoWave\VideoWave7.exe" but your precise location may be different.

(3) If windows2k suppports it, try setting the "compatibility mode" to Window2K i.e. right click on the executable and select the compatiblity tab.. select Windows2000. XP supports this feature and I can't remember if W2K has it or not.

In addition, make certain that you've eliminated all spyware using two different programs like LavaSoft's AdAware SE (free for individual users) and Spybot Search and Destroy (donation requested.)

Have you installed any new software (including games) lately? Are there any new pop up blockers on your computer. ( I updated my Yahoo IM and got a pop up blocker in a 'pencil' icon that caused me all kinds of grief until I found it under the Toolbar options....)

// I think so but I'm not perfectly sure.

// Yes, I did exactly that. No joy.

// Nope, no such feature on W2K.

This comes from an old post on the previous boards:

Home Menu Closes

Symptom:

Home menu launches but is non-functional Or automatically closes / Runtime Error Launching Media Manager

Solution:

This can be caused by a number of system specific issues such as incorrect registry permissions or improperly registered DAO components.

Please try each of the steps in order until your issue is resolved.

1. Register the DAO360.DLL File

a. Click on the 'Start' button and then click on 'run'

b. In the run dialogue box, type or copy/paste the following line exactly:

regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\DAO\DAO360.DLL"

c. Once that line appears in the run box, click on 'OK'

d. You should see a message that the registration 'succeeded'. Click 'OK'

e. Now try launching the Easy Media Creator 7 Home or Media Manager

2. Add additional registry permissions for Roxio specific registry keys

a. Click on the 'Start' button and then click on 'run'

b. Type the following command in the 'run' dialogue box (choose the correct line for your operating system):

Windows XP: regedit

Windows 2000: regdt32

c. Once you've typed 'regedit' (XP) or 'regedt32' that line appears in the run box, click on 'OK'

d. In the registry, navigate to HKEY_Current_User\Software\Roxio. (If you're using Windows 2000, find the window for HKEY_CURRENT_USER and

navigate to HKEY_Current_User\Software\Roxio)

e. If you're using Windows XP, right click on the ‘Roxio’ key and choose permissions. If you're using Windows 2000, highlight the 'Roxio'

key and click on the 'security' pulldown menu and choose 'permissions'

f. Highlight the ‘Administrators’ group and put a checkmark under the 'Allow' heading for 'Full Control.

g. Highlight the ‘SYSTEM’ group and put a checkmark under the 'Allow' heading for 'Full Control.

h. Now try launching the Easy Media Creator 7 Home or Media Manager

3. Uninstall/Reinstall Microsoft Office '97 or Higher

In some cases where the Microsoft DAO component is damaged, you may be able to repair it by uninstalling Microsoft Office '97 or higher,

rebooting your computer, and then reinstalling Microsoft Office

4. Rename the existing Media Manager database

a. Close all open applications, especially Roxio applications

b. Open 'my computer'

c. Double click on the 'C:' drive and browse to 'C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Roxio' where 'USERNAME' is the name of the user you are currently logged in as.

d. Right click on the 'MediaManager' folder and choose rename

e. Call the folder 'MediaManager.old'

f. Now try launching the Easy Media Creator 7 Home or Media Manager

// Can't answer first Q, because I don't think I ever tried VideoWave before. Only popup blockers I have are in Norton Anti-Virus and/or system Security

Ted, when you click on the Reply button, make sure that the cursor is below the quote, before you type. All of your reply looks like it is the quote.

If VideoWave is the only problem, do as was suggested by ml, and get rid of spyware and malware on your computer. For now, don't do the steps in my previous post.

Try this, now. It won't hurt anything, even if it doesn't help:

Rename your Media Manager folder.

Media Manager is a hidden file. Go to My Computer/Tools/Folder Options, click on View, scroll down to Hidden Files and folders, and click in the circle to the left of Show hidden files and folders. Click on Apply, then Ok.

a. Close all open applications, especially Roxio applications.

b. Open My Computer.

c. Double click on the C: drive and browse to C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Roxio, where USERNAME is the name of the user you are currently logged in as.

d. Right click on the MediaManager folder and choose rename.

e. Name the folder MediaManager.old

f. See if VideoWave functions now.
