Emc 2009 Cannot Handle Large M2ts Files

Mark W

Question

Has anyone else seen this problem. I can reproduce this consistently.

Try to import (add movie) a large m2ts file into MyDVD or Video Copy and Convert. We're talking 20, 30GB files. 6GB seems to work.

1. Fire up MyDVD

2. Select a DVD or Blue Ray Project w/or w/o Menus

3. Add Movie

4. Select a large m2ts file (non copyprotected, yes)

5. MyDVD starts to transcode the file and aborts with "Operation Failed. 80004005".

-or-

1. Fire up Video Copy and Convert

2. Select Video Compliation

3. Add Movie

4. Select same or another large m2ts file (again non-copyprotected)

5. Copy and Convert starts to "ReMux file" and completes after 5-10 seconds

6. Resultant file is blank.

EMC Ultimate 2009

Vista Ultimate w/SP1

4GM Ram

ATI Radion X1950 Pro

Intel Duo Core 3.2GHz

ASUS P5B-Deluxe Motherboard

If you are trying to copy a commercial DVD, it will of course never work.

Nope, not in this case, my son's football games that a friend recorded for me.

Happens on a number of files, it's the file size that seems to be the problem.

I MyDVD, you can even preview the clip and it looks perfect.

Couple of points - do you have a Blu-Ray (HD) capable computer?

It's not just a matter of the drive but you also need HD compatable graphics card and monitor.

Again what is the duration of the movie (not the actual size in GB, but the time in hours and minutes)?

Have you checked your drives for free space. Just because you have tons off free space on one drive, you need to make sure there is plenty of free space on the drive where the TEMP files are created. There are several locations for temp files:

Windows usually defaults to Drive C which can be changed. Videowave/MyDVD do not use the Windows temp folders, but their own location which can also be changed.

It's also a good idea to keep all drives defragged, too.

I have a blue ray drive yes.

Movies are about 3 hours each.

I 'was' able to watch commercial blue rays on them until I reformatted and rebuilt

Are you saying the ATI Radion X1950 is the problem? Why would I be able to convert smaller files then?

Plenty of room, roughly 200GB free on my C drive.

I've read the help topics on 80004005, and changed from hardware to software, but that was no help either.

I would just had to run out and spend another $300 on a video card when I really don't need to.

I alrady did one better than the clean install. I purchased a new hard drive, reinstalled Vista, SP1, 200 or so MS fixes, then EMC 2009. Same results on both topics.

I think my next step is to replace my ATI X1950 with one of those ATI HD models...I think it will resolve one of my issues, but probably not the other.
