Roxio2009

GinaL

Question

I have tried every solution the Support Desk has given me to get this Software working. I've been using Roxio for many years and probably have every version but now an seriously considering any other product that will help me do my videos. I have an HP Quadcore Pentium with 4 gb of RAM and 750 gb hard drive running Vista Home Premium - 64bit. I have followed all the directions for a clean install, as exhaustive as that was, reinstalled but no luck. Now it appears to be installed but when I open Videowave or MyDVD, as soon as a pick a photo or video file, Roxio begins to shut down my computer. I haven't heard anything back on my trouble ticket I last updated on the 7th.

Is there a problem with 64bit Vista or Quadcore pentiums?

It's the oddest thing. I read your post and tried the same thing. I have a Quad core with Vista Ultimate 64 bit. I was able to load the pictures, but the shutdown began when I tried to run a preview of the slide show in VideoWave. I have a fresh installation of my OS, done on 10/31...so Creator 2009 was done clean as it can be and the issue does persist. I have done two movies with MyDVD (imported using the Roxio USB capture device) with no issues at all. I am going to try a few things and get back to you.

OK...I found a possible solution for you to try. Not sure why this is happening, but I did the following. When you go to open either VideoWave or MyDVD...don't just open by clicking on the icon in the program group. Right click and "Run as Administrator" I was able to load 100 photos and transitions, etc. in VideoWave and run the preview. My next attempt will be to burn the compilation exporting to MyDVD. But I can get you this far...

I found this to solve the issue. Run as Administrator keeps the program and computer from crashing. I tried this solution first and it worked. I find that it works as a permanent solution, even though the properties of the programs themselves hasn't changed, nor is administrative privelage part of the program properties. I went to: C:\Program Files (x86)\Roxio Creator 2009\VideoUI11\ MyDVD or Videowave and checked program properties. Wanted to change to "Run as Administrator" permanantly...but was not given the option of doing so. HOWEVER, after having run both programs once as Administrator...everything seems to run fine. Perhaps someone can shed further light into the WHY...now that there seems to be a solution as to how to get the programs to run properly. BTW...burned a 50 picture compilation with transitions and music...and used MyDVD Express through Videowave to burn...was successful...Let me know your progress...

You have stuimbled on one of the great Microsoft mysteries - why the OS won't let you do things in user mode.

Unfortunately, that's what happens. EMC and Creator 2009 won't do things in User mode and have to be run as administrator.

Now why MS came up with the two different access levels is a question that only Redmond can answer

That seems to be working for me right now. I inserted several large AVCHD video files and no problems so far. I'll keep you posted. What would be the solution other than "running as Administrator". Roxio must have screwed up on something!?

I now seem to have the problem where everytime I click on a video to play, it says Please wait while Windows configurres Rixio CinePlayer decoder pack. Any suggestions for that one?

Not sure. My CinePlayer runs...but only after some error concerning MS .net framework. I get the crash and then Cineplayer runs ONCE...if I close...I have to reboot to get it to run again...if not one thing...another...and believe me...I believe more MS than Roxio on this one
